Page 2- October, 1976 LION’S EYE One Average American Speaks Out By: Larry Gallone The other day this reporter stopped in a South Philadelphia bar to get reactions and opinions from the ‘‘electorate?’ as to the upcoming presidential election, It was here that Tony X was presented to me, He wishes to be kept anonymous, Lion’s Eye: Good Afternoon. I’m from the Lion’s Eye, Penn State’s newspaper, Tony X: Hey Billy, bring us a couple of beers; I’m gonna be a star in a news- paper, What did ya want to ask? L.E,: Just a few reactions as to the election and the candidates in particular, Tony X: Stink, They all stink, this elec- tion stinks, the Eagles stink, even your news reporters stink, ; L.E,: Don’t you think that is rather vindictive? Tony X: Damn right it’s vindictive, What did they ever do for me? All we hear is “I promise this and I promise that,” the only promise they ever keep is to break the promise they promise, You get my drift college boy? : L.E.: Yes, I can see the direction this interview is going to take. How about the candidates? Let’s start with Gerald Ford, Tony X: The Old Michigan Footballer. I think he played too many games without his helmet, The old triple threat Run, Stumble, Fumble, He can’t even walk and chew gum at. the same time, L.E,: What about Mr. Ford?’s policies? Tony X: What kind of policies does he have? Life insurance policies - get a piece of rockhead! Something like 50 vetoes in the past two and a half years, That is ridiculous and so is his admini- stration, Know what the “R?’ in his name stands for? - run. Gerald “Run’” Ford, Students Escape To Mall (Continued from Page 1) study.’ Not that there is anything wrong with going to the mall, but I think that there should be some activities held during the day to help alleviate the boredom, This would also help to bring a lot of students together and to bring about a better image of the campus, College should not be thought of just a place to go learn and study but also a place to socialize. Some of the day activities held in the past were concerts, picnics, and assemblies (or activities) having guest speakers, The Student Affairs Commission (SAC) would like to repeat some of these events but they are also willing and eager to accept other ideas, If you have any creat- ive thoughts as to what we can do to eliminate this boredom among fellow students, you can put your suggestions in the SAC mailbox, located in the carpeted room in modulars. And his wife Betty, why don’t she shut up? Women’s Lib, ERA, Until this election year I thought ERA was a baseball pit- cher’s average, How did Ford get in anyway? He won by default, he won by the smallest landslide in history, L.E,: Now you seem to have covered Ford fairly well, how about his opponent Jimmy Carter? Tony X: That hick from the sticks! Let him stay where he belongs, down home playing with his peanuts, Peanut butter makes me constipated anyway, Oh! and I can’t stand the way he talks out of both sides of the issues. I hate that man, I hate that Southern drawl, I hate that be =a ) smile, If I was a dentist, I’d have to do root canal work on him with- out novacaine, His little daughter, selling Lemonade, It’s probably artificial just like the whole Carter clan, Let me tell you something college boy, you might not appreciate my saying so, you know I got brains and you know figures and facts, but I know people, and Carter ain’ people - he’s KEY USA WORD, ‘ACTION’ By: Leslee Adcock ¢“We’ve come a long baby!” This is the best way to describe the Undergrad- uate Student Association, Action is the key word for USA and Jim Leemon helps it all work, As president Lieemon can be found in his office much of the time, He believes in total involvement, which includes in- volving night students, He believes they are a large part of the school and wants théir opinions voiced in USA. Another resource being tapped is the Freshman class. When asked if new students have shown interest in USA Leemon replied, ‘‘Yes, they show a lot of interest in USA and clubs, For example, many of our clubs have tripled in size since last year,” Leemon was also asked how he would describe the realtionship between USA and the administration, He said, ‘The rela- tionship is pretty good. They are respon= sive and receptive, We have man-to-man conversation.” (maybe person-to per- son?) According to Leemon the relationship with students is also good. In relation to other clubs he said, “] see my position as coordinator of conflict among clubs,’ Of course Jim doesn’t work alone, USA also has a vice-president, secre- tary, treasurer, and assistant treasurer, He said, ‘‘There is always at least one person in our office to welcome students no matter what they want.” _interested,’’ something not to be trusted, Just look so far how he’s lied, he says no grain embargoes, then he says there could be some, What’s he mean? - Pardon, no amnesty? Even here he shows his lying abilities, First he says he opposes abortion, then he supports a constituional amendment for abortion, What a Commie he is, Carter says he is a ‘‘Born Again Chris- tian’’ - What was wrong the first time? L.E,: Do you think Ford has a better idea on abortion? Tony X: No, Like I said before, on the assembly line of life Ford is a factory reject. And so is Carter, he says he’s a farmer. He should go farm and stay out of our government, (Continued to Page 3) STUDENTS TAKE PART IN POLL By: Larry Gallone and Karen Wallace Recently a poll of the students on Delaware County Campus was conducted, A total of 100 students were surveyed, on their choice of presidential candidates, It was a random sampling of all stud- ents eligible to vote in the 1976 Presi- dential Election, The students were asked on the basis that they were eligible to vote, if they intended to vote, (if not, why not) and who they intended to vote for, Of the students who would not vote we received such responses as: “I’m not “I guess Im too lazy,” “I’m tired of politics and politicians,” “I don’t like the eandidates,”” and one student even raised the question of a tax being assessed if he would register to vote, This survey was taken before the de- bates between Ford and Carter, As of now the winner was undeeided, Most students surveyed, whether asked on the rain, in the modulars, the student lounge, or outside the lecture hall, those who were undecided said almost unanimously that the debates would have the greatest effect on their vote, Carter Ford Undecided Other Would Not Vote 24 23 37 4% 12 * Three votes for Jerry Brown; one for Eugene McCarthy, Survey conducted September 16-17, 1976 3k 2k 3k 3k kk 3k 3k 3 ok 3k 3k sk 3k 3k 3k 3k ok 3k ok 3k ok ok 3 5k ok ok 3% 3% 3k ok 3k 3k 3k 3k ok ok %k On November 1st and 2nd, the Lion’s Eye will sponsor a mock Presidential Election, Everyone will be eligible to vote, Vote and see the choice your campus makes, when the rest of the country votes.
