April 2009 Volume V Issue VI This season the basketball intramurals are very competitive and bring a lot of excitement to Mont Alto’s campus. There are eight different teams and all of the teams have their own basketball styles. The eight teams include The Underdogs, Team Shut Down, Ballaholics, Cleveland Steamers, Gruesome Seven, MA Ballers, Euro Flava, and The Engineers. Each team has a lot to say about their own skills and ‘their oppo- nents. Team players seem very eager to express their opinion about the other teams that they intend on beating. These eight teams are very ex- cited to play because they get a chance to play a game they enjoy in front of the student body. After talking with the teams they ex- pressed their feelings on their ad- versaries. Each team that I spoke to agreed that team Engineers were the worst team on the court. Even though they were dubbed the worst team on the court they did give the Cleveland Steamers a run for their money when they took them into double overtime. The Engineers still lost that game, but only by two points. The MA Ballers, Ballaholics, and the Gruesome Seven agree that that they will give each other the best competition. When asked what team will give you the big- gest competition the Gruesome Seven said “MA Ballers and maybe the Ballaholics but every other teams that we are going to wash out.” These three teams seemed to have formed a rivalry Submitted by Alex Hagans with each other on which they all will come in either first, second, or third place and first place claims bragging rights. Even though these teams were seen as top com- petitors they all have seemed to underestimate team Underdogs. more than fitting, is the only team so far that has a matching record of the Gruesome Seven whom is currently undefeated. The Under- dogs are slowly but surely making their name known as they continue beating out their competition. Team Shut Down whose team has kept quiet for the most part beat the MA Ballers but were called out by team Euro Flava for talking too much trash. Team Euro Flava demonstrated having the most confidence at the begin- ning of the intramural season when they responded to being asked what team will be the big- gest threat to them by saying “our own team, if we lose then it’s our own fault, no one can beat us.” The team was then asked what is their biggest faulty and they ad- mitted it was their arrogance. Overall, all the teams are showing good sportsmanship and the “trash talk” is in good fun. These teams are playing with the teams that they personally created to match up against other person- ally created teams. All of the teams encourage students to come out and support the basketball intramurals on Tuesdays and Thursdays in the MAC building. Inside a Player’s Mind By Khulud Khudur: Staff Writer The heat. The sweat dripping off your face. Energy. Power. Endless efforts. You think you're about to fall out and hit the shinny floor, but you have to keep on going be- cause if you did not, your team would suffer. You hear the sound combined together that produced nothing. Then you turn around and look down; you hear your heart beating, bang bang, and then your conscience tells you you're thirsty and about to lose it, but you fight with yourself. You hear yourself (which is yours again is yours again) yelling back, and then the loud object that fills your hand bangs to the floor and then back up again. Your eyes bleed with tired- ness. The light is yet another burden to your eyes; you feel it heavy and almost as if a brick is to fall in them, mixed with salt and lemon. The mysterious and weird. Your flesh can’t take it any longer. It is pouring with pain yet again hope.
