THON

oncologists, social workers,
pediatric oncology nurse
specialists, psychologists, child
life specialists, nutritionists,
pediatric cancer researchers, and
even music therapists, the hospital
is able to provide, with the help of
The Four Diamonds Fund,
optimum treatment to its patients.
In addition to Penn State Mont
Alto’s THON organization raising
money, members of the group have
been involved in two patients’
lives. Each campus is given a name
of a child receiving treatment at The
Medical Center. Mont Alto was
designated two children this year.
The purpose is to keep up the host
families’ spirits.
Hospitality co-chairs Emily
Murray and Helyne Joseph have
organized ways to keep this
campus’ children happy. Through
interacting with the families by
means of phone, email, and get-
togethers, Murray and Joseph have
boosted the morale of Mont Alto’s
host families. In addition to Murray
and Joseph’s efforts, other
members of THON have attempted
to get to know the two children and
their families.
This year’s THON takes place
at State College’s Bryce Jordan
Center on February 22 to February
24. Each branch of Penn State is
allowed four dancers to represent
its campus. The dancers for Mont
Alto are Helyne Joseph, Mike Di
Ritchey. For 46 hours, dancers are
supposed to continuously be
active in order to raise the most
money.
“THON is really important to
me because the children mean so
much. By raising a lot of money,
we can help cure cancer. I’m
really excited to be a dancer. Itis
going to be a fun experience,”
states Le. She shares the
enthusiasm of all the dancers.
Four Diamonds has a
mission to help conquer
“childhood cancer, and with
continuing support, the dream of
finding a cure will one day be a
reality.

the first $4,000 of college tuition to
