    MAY QUEEN AND COURT
SELECTED BY POPULAR VOTE
Highlighting the one night opening
of Club Collegian was the announce
ment this evening of the new May
Queen of the Hazleton Undergraduate
Center, Miss Shirley Van Naucker.
Catherine Conahan, last year's May
Queen, made the announcement, which
was greeted by the whole hearted ap
plause of the entire student body. The
election was by popular vote and the
selection of Miss Van Naucker is a
tribute denoting the esteem in which
she is held by her fellow students.
Miss Conaltan presented the new
ruler of the May with a corsage and
a card symboling the general congra
tulations of the group. The card was
inscribed with the names of the mem
bers of the year's Court of Honor,
which was also selected by popular
vote.
Undergraduate committees working
with Mrs. Goss, advisor of the girls'
sorority, have announced that the co
ronation, followed by a semi-formal
dance will take place on May 6th at
the Holy Trinity Hall.

Love, you know, is a funny thing;
But the funniest thing about it
Is you never can tell if it is love
Until you start to doubt it.
We don't say that marriages are
not made in heaven, but we do say
that if they are, a new shipping clerk
is needed up there who won't get the
wrong adresses on so many of them.
There was an old man of Nantucket
Who kept all his cash in a bucket;
But his daughter named Nan,
Ran away with a man—
And as for the bucket—Nantucket.
I can not cook, I can not draw,
I don't resemble Venus.
I can not sing, I can not write.
I guess I'm just a genius.

GREASE OR GREECE SITUATION?
No, this is not a problem for the International Court of Justice
or United Nations Security Cauncil. It could be used as reference
material for an enterprising columnist who would like to create
a bit of allegorical literature, and it also might •be used as an
example by the Red Cross Safety Council; however, the the
Hazleton State Hospital handled it quite nicely.
Miss Pearl Garbrick, HUC music instructor, had completed
frying one of her tasteful steaks when she decided to dispose of
the excess fat ("grease").
Although she admitted that she knew better, she related how
she took a cup of grease drippings in her left hand, removed the
stove lid with her right hand, and nonchalantly poured the con
tents into the fire. An enveloping sheet of flame ensued as the
cup exploded, leaving the handle remaining between her thumb
and forefinger.
The more severe burns centered primarily about her thumb
and forefinger and extended back almost to her elbow. While her
clothing had saved her from more serious tragedy, her apron and
dress will be of little use.
Miss Garbrick believes that "Grease" can be handled safely,
but an impulsive act such as she committed should furnish ample
proof of the danger of the situation.
(Marshall, Molitov, please note!)
(Printer mistook this for an editorial and printed it a two column space.)
Since riches lead to vice,
And poverty to theft,
Outside of paradise
Is any virtue left?
Mode, bitter-sweet, from fruits of
life.
There is a wine;
It quenches every human thirst
We call it time. —Jean Herrick
