In 54-49 Win
Over Scranton U.J.V.
The Hazleton Undergraduate Cen
ter's courtmen returned to their win
ning ways by handing a scrappy
Scranton U. Junior Varsity a 54-49
defeat. A well-balanced attack headed
by Munroe, Apichella and Riordan,
who found the hoop for 11 counters
apiece proved too much for the home
club.
HUC hopped off to a 15-6 lead in
the 'first period and was never in seri

when' Scranton flashed a rally that
dropped six points short of a victory.
' Appearing in the Lackawanna line
up were several Hazleton players:

and Apichella led HUC's slight offen
sive. The first canto ended with MMI
out in front, 12-16. In the second

Breslin, Madden and Eckrote. Mun
roe and Ray Williams sparked a last
quarter offensive which fell short and
MR walked off with a 70-60 triumph.

tle Tommy Breslin, who played a
whale of a game, and also chalked
up 26 points. He was closely followed
by Josh Madden, the Preppers' rangy
centerman, who accounted for 16 tal
lies. Jimmy Munroe led the HUC at

Tournament Topics
Officials for the Eastern District
Tourney have been announced. They
are Chet Rogowicz, of Pottsville; Ed
Katalinas, of Shenandoah; "Red"
Rothacker, of Weatherly; and Bill
Kramer, Hal Vowler, and Johnny
Guenther, all of Hazleton. . . .
Official timer for the contests will
be Jim "Gassy" Horn, and the official
scorer will be Dave MacFarlane. Both
men hail from West Hazleton. . . .
Pottsville, last year's title-holder,
issued a warning that they are out to
repeat last year's feat. The Schuyl
kill County five admit that the great
est obstacle in their path is HUC. . . .
We had hoped to print the pictures
of all the teams participating in the
tournament, but some of the schools
failed to send a picture of their
quintets. . .
A vote of thanks is extended to the
West Hazleton officials for the co
operation they have shown in secur
ing the use of the West Hazleton
High School 'gymnasium for the
games and dance. . . .
Averaging 17 points 'a game, Cox,
of Keystone looms as one of the main
scoring threats of the tourney. . . .
PROBABLE OFFICIALS
FOR TOURNEY
The officials for the tournament
have not as yet been decided upon,
but it is certain that Chet Rogowiez
and Hal Vowler will handle the quer
ter-4final game this evening between
Keystone Junior College and Potts
ville U.C.
Under consideration for the semi-fi
nals and finals are "Red" Rothacker,
Ed Katalinas, Johnny Guenther and
Bill Kramer.

Motorists are also reminded that
the Hazleton City School authorities
have requested no parking at the rear
