The Highacres Collegian Get to Know Your Staff By: The Highacres Collegian Staff In an effort to familiarize the student body of the Hazleton Campus with it’s own campus newspaper Staff, we the members of the staff present the following information for the benefit of the general population of this campus. Feel free to stop any of us when you see us in passing and give any constructive criticism you may have to offer or any comments about the paper, it’s your paper as much as it is ours. Our editor in chief as well as the president of the Collegian is Gina Hammond. Gina attended Pocono Mountain High School near her home in Tobyhanna, Pennsylvania. She Communications major who enjoys horseback riding and writing in her spare time. Gina is a sophomore here at Hazleton and was born on October 1. She is also a member of the radio club and the Student Union Board here on campus. ?v Ben Turrano is the assistant editor and vice president of the Collegian and lives in Lansford, Pennsylvania where he attended Panther Valley High School. He is a Political Science major who hopes one day to work for the United Nations. Ben is a sophomore here at Hazleton and was bom June 12, a birthday he shares with his least favorite politician; George Bush. In his free time, Ben enjoys reading, writing, sailing and swimming; and he can occasionally be found listening to his favorite piece of music: Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony, more commonly known as "The Ode to Joy" or watching his favorite movie: "It’s A Wonderful Life". Ben is also our resident Trekkie/Trekker. Our secretary who calls Wappingers Falls, New York her home, is Erin Keane. Erin attended Roy C. Ketcham High School near her home in New York. She is a sophomore majoring in English and was bom March 2, so be sure to wish her a happy birthday next semester. The Wizard of Oz is Erin’s favorite movie and the song: Every Little Thing She Does is Magic, by the Police is her favorite song. Erin enjoys playing field hockey, basketball, soccer, and softball in her spare time as well as writing and playing the piano. She is also a member of BACCHUS here on campus. Our treasurer is from the sprawling community of Collegian Staff- from left t 0 rieht: lst Keane 2nd row!.. Michelle Lake, Tonia Sulick, Todd Ritter,Kelly Walch and Gina Hammond 'row... Rob Venema, Keith Femsler, Ben Turrano and Eric Aristes, Pennsylvania. She is Tania Sulick, but her friends call her Bubbles. Tonia attended North Schuylkill High School where she was a section leader in the school band and where, she performed many lead parts in school plays. She is a freshman who was bom April 28 and who enjoys playing the piano and clarinet in her free time and presently she- is majoring in Meteorology. Tonia has also been selected as one of die newest Lion Ambassadors here on Campus. One might occasionally find Tonia playing her favorite song: For Just A Moment from her favorite movie "St. Elmo’s Fire" on the piano. Freshman Todd Ritter from Danville is one of this year’s newest staff members. Todd is a Film major and has acquired a wide knowledge of many movies, directors, actors, and actresses. Todd’s favorite movies are "Dead Poets Society" and "The Silence of the Lambs", and the latter featured his favorite actress: Jodie Foster. In his spare time when he’s not browsing through the automotive section of any given local department store, Todd enjoys writing and acting. Danville Senior High School was the locale of Todd’s formative school days and he was bom March 19. His fellow staff members can attest to the fact that he has a certain flair for sarcasm and creativity which are sometimes masked by his unshakable composure. Another Meteorology major is our own Kelly Anne Walch from Mahanoy City, Pennsylvania. Kelly attended Marian High School, which incidentally is the arch-rival of Page 5 Panther Valley: Ben Turrano’s former high school. Kelly was bom July 11 and is a second semester freshman at this time. She has the distinct honor of being a former United States Marine, an experience which no doubt has allowed her to do things other people only wish they could. Her favorite song is "Damn, I Wish I was Your Lover", and her favorite actor is John Cusak. Kelley would also be able to tell anyone who asks, that her favorite actress: Barbara Streisand is like butter. Michelle Lake, another freshman addition to our staff is from Hunlock Creek where she attended Bishop Hoven High School. A Business major who was bom February 7, Michelle’s favorite movie is "The Sound Of Music" and her favorite actress is Julia Roberts. When she is not reading the works of her favorite writer: Emily Dickenson, Michelle also enjoys writing, skiing and playing soccer. She has also been bestowed the honor of receiving the Highest Award in Computer Science. Another freshman staff member, who also doubles as the president of the Science Fiction Club here on campus is Keith Femsler. He attended Central Columbia High School and is from Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania, home of the famous Bloomsburg Fair and the University with the same name. Keith is a Chemical Engineering major who was bom December 30. Some of his favorites include the movie: "Dark Man", the song Comfortably Numb, and actor Sean Connery. When he is not writing short stories or conjuring up demons while November 1992 participating in Role Playing games, Keith may be found reading things written by his favorite writer: Raymond Feist. As chance would have it, when dealing with a community as immense as Aristes, Pennsylvania; another member of our staff calls that place home. Lisa Homberger, a sophomore majoring in Psychology, who was bom January 6, wears many hats around the Hazleton Campus. She is a Psychology Lab Assistant, a Senator to the Student Government Association, President of the Residence Hall Council, a member of WHCB, vice president of HCV, a member of the Student Union Board and vice president of Youth Fellowship. Lisa’s favorite writer is Steven King and in her free time (which one wonders if she has), she enjoys target shooting, playing baseball and basketball, fishing and doing art work. A West Hazleton High School graduate, Erie Krieger is from the neighboring community of Sugarloaf, Pennsylvania. Eric is a freshman majoring in Electrical Engineering and he celebrates his birthday on Valentines Day, February 14. He is also the vice president of the Science Fiction club and was an Eagle Scout as well as a member of the National Honor Society. Eric’s favorites include the movie: "The Princess Bride" and the Pastoral Symphony by J.S. Bach. In his spare time he enjoys camping, hiking, fishing or participating in Role Playing games with Keith Femsler, with whom he shares Sean Connery as a favorite actor. Eric also enjoys reading the works of Allen Dean Foster. Students, Friends; Faculty and We the members of the Highacres Collegian Staff wholeheartedly regret the delay in the publication of this issue. Creating a newspaper is a long and arduous process which requires the cooperation, patience and understanding of many. Unfortunately, when these all-important factors are not provided, delays occur. As any good leader knows, delays cause frustration, anger and misunderstanding. We apologize sincerely and hope that no more delays occur.
