'sing us a song"' by George Hirko Freelance Editor The man known as Billy Joel has been singing us songs for a long time now. In the early 70*s he released Cold Sprins Harbor his first solo album. It didn't have any songs of acclaim. Also, it was recorded at the wrong speed which caused parts of the album to be "Chipmunk” in quality. This could have made him give up, but he hung in there and his next album, Piano Man was a hit. Well, he’s got 13 albums under his belt now and a tour of the East Coast underway. There seems to be no stopping the impressive Mr. Joel. He hasn’t toured since he was in Russia back in 'B7. If you think this has left him rusty, you are off by a longshot. The arena is sold out. The lights begin to go out in a systematic pattern. Next, steam begins to rise from behind the stage. This is followed by a dark, ominous melody that you might hear at an operetta. Suddenly, the lighting comes back on and Joel and his band are on stage belting out Storm Front the title cut of the new album. Classics such as Captain Jack, Miami 2017, and It's Still Rock-n-Roll are heard through the immense speakers. Of course, newer hits like We Didn* t Start The Fire and I Go To Extremes were also performed. Joel even attempted to break into other forms of music, specifically rap, with his rap rendition of The Night Before Christmas. There was a pleasant mix of talk and music throughout the night. Three encores were present, Piano Man being the finale. This was an excellent concert for old and new fans alike. your no.t, s b material by George Hirko Freelance Editor We could get right to the point and simply say, "Hey, go out there and get involved! Join a club! Be a part of it all!" Maybe we could try to entice you with all kinds of various gimmicks or promise you wealth and power beyond your wildest imagination. But, why bother? If you enjoy sitting alone in your room instead of taking the opportunity to meet interesting new friends, feel free to do so. If studying for that next test in Basket Weaving 101 is your style, please weave away. Whatever you do, DO NOT take the opportunity gain new experiences, meet new people, or even (GASP!!!) have some fun! After all, there are too few basket weavers as it is.
