Noriega To Face Indictments
by Todd Niziol
Co-Editor
Finally, Manuel
Antonio Noriega has
been brought to the
U.S. to stand trial
for drug trafficking
charges. If found
guilty, Noriega could
face 145 years in
prison and up to $l.l
million in fines.
Even before the
pre-trial action,
problems have sprung
up. One problem is
finding an impartial
jury. Noriega’s
defense attorney is
expected to ask for a
change of venue.
Another problem is
the use of classified
documents as evidence.
Contragate cases were
thrown out because
defendants could not
use certain documents
to defend themselves.

PA Abortion
Law Under Fire
Todd Niziol
Co-Editor
Pennsylvania’s
tough abortion law
Cthe USA'a Toughest)
came under attack from
the American Civil
Liberties Union
recently.
U.S. District Judge
Daniel Hyett issued a
temporary injunction
in response to a legal
challange from the
ACLU. The injunction
blocks provisions
requiring spousal
notification, a 24-
hour waiting period
and informed consent
procedures.
The remaining
sections took effect
on Jan. 16th. They
were bans on abortion
as a means of sex
selection and abortion
after 24 weeks, except
to save the mother’s
life.
Niether side of the
abortion conflict
could claim victory,
but the implementation
of the law is yet
another step toward
overturning Roe vs.
Wade.
