However, you should never go to a game empty handed, therefore, bring along your Penn State Collegian fight songs and become part of the game rather than being just a spectator. The Nittany Lion Every college has a legend, Passed on from year to year, To which they pledge allegiance, And always cherish dear. But of all the honored idols, There's but one that stands the test, It's the stately Nittany Lion, The symbol of our best. Chorus Hail to the Lion, Loyal and true. Hail Alma Mater, with your white and blue. Penn State forever; Mother of men. Fight for her honor - fight - and victory again. There's Pittsburgh with its Pan ther, And Penn her Red and Blue. Dartmouth with its Indian, And Yale her Bulldog too. There's Princeton with its Tiger, And Cornell with its Bear, But speaking now of victory, We'll get the Lion's share. iS%i`''i Cory Oswald at guard Keith Gardner lead the team with 20 total points, followed by Chris Bigger with 16 points, Shawn Hackman with 11 points, and Jeff Milliken, Darren Carpe netti, and Jeff Hall with 10 points each. There were 8 turnovers in the game The two managers for the 1988-89 basketball team are Terry Zingales and Michelle Greene. Dani Geissinger, Linel Reaves, Julie Meckley and Laura Harris are the statisticians for the team. The turnout Friday night was impressive. Hopefully, the sup port of the fans will continue throughout the rest of the season Game schedules are available on the bulletin board outside Dr. Tom Caccese's office in the Phys Ed. building for anyone who is interested Penn State Alma Mater For the Glory of Old State For her founders strong and great, For the future that we wait, Raise the song, raise the song. Sing our love and loyalty Sing our hopes that, bright and free, Rest 0 Mother, dear, with thee. All with thee, all with thee. When we stood at childhood's gate Shapeless in the hands of fate, thou did'st mold us dear old State. Dear old State, dear old State. May no act of ours bring shame To one heart that loves they name, May our lives help swell thy fame. Dear old State, dear old State acres FANS By Bill Reader Penn State Hazleton is a small school, but what we lack in size we make up for in spirit. The dances held in the Commons, Dining Hall, and even the dorm lobbies are usually big successes, as are other social events like mo vies and pizza parties. Contest lake S.A.D. posters and hall dec orating are met with enthusiastic competitors. P.S.U. Hazleton's school spirit can best be exempli fied, however, by the turnout by fans at sporting events. It all started this year with a promising soccer team. At first, few people came. As the year progressed, however, more and more students came to support their team by cheering loudly and boistrously for the team's efforts. The team had a lot of talent, but the fan support helped drive the team to a league championship by giving the Bootees a strong sense of pride, and the desire to give everything their best. Now, it is the basketball sea son, and after only 'a few games the fans are cheering on the team and razzing the opponents. Hope fully, with the combination of a very talented team and good fan support, the basketball team can fare as well as the soccer team. One thing that can't be said about our fans, however, is that they are nice. Ugly to the last, even when losing, the fans don't give up driving the opponents in sane with rage just as the teams don't give up the game. And pity the referee who makes a bad call on Hazleton - -. he receives enough mental abuse to cripple an ele phant. The fans like a good, hard played game, and cheer when .op ponents fall under legal (some times not so legal) hits. One key attractant to the soccer games was to see how may fouls a certain fullback would commit, and how flagrant these fouls would be. To sum it up, our fans are just plain MEAN!!! And they are appreciat ed for it So if you want to really enjoy a social event at P.S.U. Hazleton, just go to a home basketball game this winter, or even a soccer game next fall, and sit back and watch quality competition both on the field and in the stands. And re member - - Penn State is just as proud of their fans as it is of its athletes. lan December 1988 Bids Run High at Bachelor / Bachelorette By Jen Urbanski On November 7, 1988, the Hazleton Highacres campus held the successful Bachelor/ Bachelorette Auction sponsored by RHC and SGA. This event began at 9:00 pm and lasted until 10:45 pm. It consisted of 19 partici pants, some of which were win ners of the Best Buns contest held earlier this year, and about 150 people were in the audience. The purpose of the auction was to raise money for the Christmas party to Abe held on Nov. 29. A large amount of money was raised, with both clubs receiving $98.00. Some contestants were bought for as high as $40.00. The highest bid was $47.00. That couple received a lobster dinner for two at Car men's Restaurant. Other prizes included, free movie tickets, and the top 3 bids won dinner as well as tickets. This event, along with the Best Buns Contest was one of the biggest successes so far this year. Hopefully, we'll have as much if not more participation from the campus students within the next few months. RHC and SGA would like to thank those who made the auction a big suc cess. Chorus Goes to Boston! By Bethann Longenecker November ninth and tenth, the Highacres Chorus and Drama Club went on a two-day music tour of New England. Twenty chorus members performed first at East Grenby High School, and then in Hollis, New Hampshire. They performed their "Broadway Fa vorites" including a medley from "Cats" and "West Side Story", "Day by Day" from "Godspell", and "Happiness" from "You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown." They all said they had an awe:. some time performing, and that the high school students looked up to them, the "big college stu dents." Before coming back to Hazleton, they all spent a day touring Boston. Some went to see "Cheers", while others shopped and ate at Quincy Market. They came back very tired, but satis fied that they had made a good mark in New England, Repre senting Penn State Hazleton.
