pagel2 Soccer them out of their leadlock blues. A game with PSU-York must have been just what the doctor ordered, because the offenge, defense, and all the little intangibles that help a team win came together that Saturday. The Lions played their best game of the season, shut ting out York 3-0. As stri ker John Batadziej put it, "We physically beat the s--- out of them." York, which had nineteen availa ble players, was outhustled and manhandled the entire game by an aggressive swarm of Lions. Defensively, the team played its best game, and Jim Kalinovich proved himself at the important "stopper" position with a superb effort. Chip Winner and John Baradziej accoun ted for all the scoring, with Chip scoring two and assisting on John's goal, and John assisting on both of Chip's goals. The performance in the game at York was a good omen of things that were to come for the Hazleton Lions. The performance came at a perfect time, with an important league game with tough PSU-Ogontz on Septem ber 28 coming up, and four more league games in weeks that were to follow. The team had finally made a transition from a young team with potential to a hungry team of soccer play ers with "the right stuff" to go far. The roster included Coach Trim Pitzwater; Assis tant Coach Mike Popatch; managers Kim Bradford, Kym Falcone, Kim Chipeleski, and Carol Flesh; and play ers Chip Winner, Mike Or lando, John Baradziej, George Denger, Adam Huffer, Victor Wymbs, Jeff Sanders, Bill Shapiro * John Douglas, Tom Miller, Lad elver, Jim Kalinovich, Brian Baker,, Wade Martin, and Bill Law e• SP • rence. 441t4C Hanover.
