Sports Hall of Fame Established for 50th In honor of our 50th anniversary, a Sports Hall of Fame is being established at Highacres and the first five former Hazleton Campus athletes are to be inducted into it this spring. According to Dr. Thomas Caccese, athletic director, the awards will be made at the fifth annual All-Sports Banquet which will also honor the athletes from the past year. It is scheduled for 6:30 p.m., Saturday, April;2oth in Highacres Dining Hall. Contact him for ticket information if you want to attend. Those chosen to be inducted into the Highacres Sports Hall of Fame during this golden anniversary year are Yvonne Cormier, Paul DeAngelo, Pete Garber, Emil Hutnyan and Dennis Williams. Cormier was selected for excellence in volleyball but she also excelled in ten nis and cross-country and was named "Outstanding Athlete of the Year" in 1982. DeAngelo set six scoring records in basketball in 1978-79, three of those records are still standing. He was the first player in Hazleton Campus history to score 500 points in a season and was an All Conference selection in 1979. Garber led the 1947-48 Hazleton Campus team to its only P.J.CAA title and led the team to a 63-60 victory over previously undefeated Temple Univer sity Freshman Team in Lion's Dream Game. Hutnyan set a basketball scoring re cord in 1951 with a 48 point perfor mance against Altoona. A graduate of Hazleton High, he averaged fewer than three points a game as a freshman at Water Garden Dedication Highacres, then came back as a sopho more to average over 20 points per game. Williams led the Hazleton Campus soccer team of 1975-76 to the playoffs and was an All Conference selection in 1974 and 1975. His 36 goals in two seasons set both Hazleton Campus and C.C.A.C. scoring records. Commencement Exercises Set for Thursday, May 16 Members of the 50th Anniversary graduating class will receive their dip lomas at ceremonies to be held on cam pus at 7 p.m„ Thursday, May 16. Harriet Wenner McGeehan will be the main speaker for the occasion. She is concluding her term of presidency of Hazleton Educational Council, the ad visory board of Hazleton Campus.
