Basketball Wrap-Up The Condors finished this season third in League play with an impressive 16-7 record. This season has seen Hazleton at the best it has been since 1948-1949, when the record set in that year was 17-5. Paul DeAnglo, who is said to be the backbone of the team, broke six league records this year. They continued to pile up the points with a 75-74 win over Keystone, the number one ranked team in Penn sylvania’s Junior Colleges. The first league game added a 90-55 win over Scranton. The “Holiday Basketball Classic’’ a tournament which was held at Highacres during Christmas pitted the Condors against Allen town. Again we bring home a victory 73-61. Later in the tourna ment Schuylkill 89-84 and captured the championship. January 15 held another great game for the Condors at home against North Hampton a 74-72 win in overtime. It was in a game against Wilkes Barre, that DeAnglo broke a record made by Greg Slusser, the single season scoring record. In a February 10th game with Scranton, Paul broke another record for most points scored in a game. The last game of the year against Alvemia (a four year college), ended our season with a 81-52 win. The league record for the Condors was 11 wins and 2 losses. Next years basketball team looks good. Marsicano, Wagner and Swaska will be returning to the starting line up and the local high school talent looks impressive. At the end of this school year, we will be losing co-captain Galasieki and Kuzo to the Capitol Campus of Penn State. Simpson, Burke, Dinsmore and DeAnglo will be transferring to University Park. Most Commonwealth Campus players end their career at one of the branch campuses. But, there is always an exception to every rule. In this case the exception is Paul DeAnglo. Due to the fine perform ance of Paul during the ’7B-’79 season, Highacres would like to see him become apart of the basketball team at the Paul, we wish you the best of luck in your career, both academically and scholastically. Paul is a very fine athlete, but he didn’t win those games alone. Credit is long over due, but certainly not forgotten for the team coach, Mr. Caccese, as well as for the entire Condor team. Congratulations guys on a truly great season. We’re proud of you all. 189 229 79 83 Final Stats - DeAnglo Marsicano Galasieki Wagner Kuzo Burke Simpson Minier Swaska Dinsmore SPORTS Total pts.
