Library Losse
High
Says Ferry
By JOHN SENGtE
COLLEGIAN Staff Writer
520 books have been
stolen from the Hlghacres Li
brary in a two-year period ac
cording to Mary Ferry, High
acres Librarian.
"It's a bad situation,"
said Ferry.
The average cost of a li
brary book is $l2. The cost i
a science book is at least $2l
With processing that means thi
in a two-year period over $B,l
worth of books have been stoli
from the Library.
Ferry feels there is a vi
able solution to this problem.
That solution involves the in
stallation of an electronic de
tection system. This system
would trigger an alarm any tii
a book was taken out of the
Library. "Losses can be cut
98% to 99%. " Ferry said, "T
system could pay for itself b
reducing the cost in stolen
books."
