The Highacres Collegian, September 26, 1975 - 8 Slabtiny tjMefncHat by Wendy Williams Sunset Memorial Scenic View, a scenic over-look, has been created as a lasting mem orial to a former Highacres maintenance man. Mr. Raymond B. Martin died January 12, 1975 as the result of a heart attack. Mr. Martin was employed by the Hazleton Campus for the past 15 years. His main duty was the care of the grounds. He often com mented about the beautiful view, and thought that an over-look should be established. After his death, Mr. Mar tin's widow contributed $l,OOO to Highacres to finance some kind of a memorial. A small clearing was made just south of the Commons. A railing has been built for safety, and a few parking spaces are avail able for convenience. Official plaques identifying the over look will be posted in the near future. Some furniture may be add ed to the over-look. The view from the over-look is quite im pressive, and a very appropri ate memorial to Mr. Martin. In addition to this, the increase in enrollment is expected to be temporary; this year being a peak year with en rollment expected to gradually decrease. According to the University, it would be sense less to construct larger dorms, classfooms, and other buildings because of this predicted drop in enrollment. The hiring of teachdrs is also limited by the threat of decreasing enrollment. If more permanent teachers are hired, it is a'distinct possibility that they will soon be unneeded. In a final effort, High acres will attempt to equalize the class scheduling, eliminat ing the Monday, Wednesday, Fri day rush and.spread classes equally throughout the week. By doing this, the general overcrowding on campus may be No Confidence Continued from page 2. to the integrity of the coun cil. That an administration would allow personal feelings to play a part in governmental functions is reprehensible. The recent instigation by officers of a recall pet ition for one council member without a grievance hearing is an example of possibly unfounded personal bias. One must wonder what action would be taken on an extremely ser ious matter. That any internal affairs should prodeed to,such a drastic measure is a grave derelectidn of duty on the part of' SGA President Joseph C. Melnick. Recall of a duly-elected member can do nothing but in crease internal friction. Melnick should have considered this before he affixed his signature to a recall petition, let alone encourage another officer to instigate it.
