UNICEF
DRIVE
Theta Sigma Pi; a service
sorority, decided to sponsor a
trick or treat for UNICEF
drive, so the pledges, girls
who wished to join the sorority
but were not yet full-fledged
members, were assigned to col
lect money for this project.
They beseiged everyone in sight
and attacked this first project
with much enthusiasm. A total
of 881.16 was collected.
A very tiny portion of
that sum was collected the night
before when a few courageous
souls braved The Church Hill
Mall in their Halloween Costumes.
This caused great excitement
among the children in the mall
at the time. ("Look mom,Hallo
weeners!") The mast part of the
money, however, was obtained
through the co-operation of
students and professors on
campus.
UNICEF, the United
Nation's Children's Timid, helps
protect children against hun
ger, disease, and want. It
exists because of the nearly one
billion children who inhabit
the world's underdeveloped
countries.
HYPNOTISM
On Thursday, October 25,
over 200 people crammed into the
dorm lobby to see Dr. Darwin
and to hear his speech on hyp
notism. Dr. Dormin told the
audience that to be hypnotized
the person must consent., must
lack fear of being hypnotized,
and must be able to communicate
with people. He also said that
the power of suggestion plays
a deep part in hypnotism, and
that the person, while hypno.,
tized, is more aware of his
surroundings and knows what
he is saying.
Dr. Dormin then proceed
ed to hypnotize some of the
audience. Those hypnotized were
Fred Kolet, Amy Velenchik, Nick
Aloi, Mark Butler, Darlene
Bubeck, and Professor Leonard
Shaevel, physics professor
