PAGE 8 - HIGHACRES COLLEGIAN, NO UNICEF DRIVE Theta Sigma Pi; a service sorority, decided to sponsor a trick or treat for UNICEF drive, so the pledges, girls who wished to join the sorority but were not yet full-fledged members, were assigned to col lect money for this project. They beseiged everyone in sight and attacked this first project with much enthusiasm. A total of 881.16 was collected. A very tiny portion of that sum was collected the night before when a few courageous souls braved The Church Hill Mall in their Halloween Costumes. This caused great excitement among the children in the mall at the time. ("Look mom,Hallo weeners!") The mast part of the money, however, was obtained through the co-operation of students and professors on campus. UNICEF, the United Nation's Children's Timid, helps protect children against hun ger, disease, and want. It exists because of the nearly one billion children who inhabit the world's underdeveloped countries. HYPNOTISM On Thursday, October 25, over 200 people crammed into the dorm lobby to see Dr. Darwin and to hear his speech on hyp notism. Dr. Dormin told the audience that to be hypnotized the person must consent., must lack fear of being hypnotized, and must be able to communicate with people. He also said that the power of suggestion plays a deep part in hypnotism, and that the person, while hypno., tized, is more aware of his surroundings and knows what he is saying. Dr. Dormin then proceed ed to hypnotize some of the audience. Those hypnotized were Fred Kolet, Amy Velenchik, Nick Aloi, Mark Butler, Darlene Bubeck, and Professor Leonard Shaevel, physics professor •ER. 16, 1973 ECOLOGY CLUB NEWS Well t things are really looking lively in the Hazleton Campus Ecology Club. Many pro jects are already under way un der the direction of Dr. Michael A. Santulli and the newly-elect ed officers: Jerry Roslevich, President; Ed Van Blargan, Vice- President; Wendy Zierdt, Secre tary; and Sueann Schell, Treas urer. The main goal of the club is to work on the streams, be cause they feel without clean waters no life can survive. Achieving this goal will hope fully be accomplished through quality water projects, improve ment devices, and trash barrels provided for stream areas. The club also hopes it will be possible to work with Trout :alimited. Fish-for-fun projects will be organized for anyone who en joys fishing or for those among us who would like to attempt it. The club will also present a film series on stream improve ment and trout fishing. Watch the bulletin board•for dates and places. A demonstration of fly casting will be given and a fly-tying demonstration is also to be presented by Barry Beck of Berwick, Pa. An exhibit of flies will be displayed in the library.
