• .• m;:;:* ~ N : r ! ' f~ ~~' fy Girls' Spring Sports Well, spring term is rapidly drawing to a close, and no official girls' sport has been started. A few girls on campus have been playing softball on the field during fifth period on Wednesday whenever the weather has been agreeable. If anyone wishes to play, just go to the field and a game can possibly be played, providing that enough girls are present and the weather in nice. It's a lot of fun, girls, so if you have the time, try to get to the field during the remaining days of the term. In the fall, Mrs. Jago has said that volleyball will again be the sport of the term. So girls, start practicing for the, team because another tournament will be held in the November. Let's be ready to bring back another trophy to Highacres! Highacres Soccer League The first half of the schedule ended on May 8, 1973 with the Faculty Packer team winning the first half with a record of 4 wins and 1 loss. The Faculty team consists of four faculty members, Dr. Covert, Mr. Breckenridge, Mr. Bell, Mr. Biggers and four students Bill Hewins, Bill Crompton, John Wynn and Frank Campbell. The other five teams in the league ate comprised totally of students. The wet weather the past few weeks has hampered play in the second half, either causing games to be cancelled and rescheduled or requiring them to be played on a wet and muddy field. Weather permitting the second play will have concluded the week of May 28. The Faculty Packer team has lead the second half league play with a 3-0 record with two games to play, and Ack's Hackers are in second place with a 2-1 record. The winners of both halves will play-off for the league championship. If the same team wins both halves, then they will win the championship and no play-off will be necessary. The League Champs team name will be engraved on a trophy that will be used to record the name of champions in the future. The final league standings for the first half of play are: 1. The team was to play four games this spring, but the first one against Keystone Junior Keystone College was washed out and could not be rescheduled. On May 15, the sun did shine and the team did get to play the team from the Wilkes Barre Campus (PSU). The Hazleton team played very well showing some fine passes and unselfish plays, not caring who scored as long as the team won. No one player had a handful of goals; eventhough nine goals were scored, seven or eight different player shots beat the Wilkes Barre goalie: thus giving Hazleton a balanced scoring attack. The team was to play Schukyll PSU on May 23, but rain caused this to be rescheduled for June 5 on the Hazleton Athletic Field. WITH pocketbook /GA goodies. 981 W. 15th St. Hazleton, Pa.
