S.G.A. ELECTION TODAY! ox tv by jon Well here I am again after one term of invpluntary recluse. A lot has happened over the winter and I feel that these activities merit mention. The basketball season at Highacres was a good one. The team finished with a 7-7 record and it could have been even better because two of those games were lost in overtime. It was unfortunate that the team did not get a lot of support but the cheerleaders made up for it. Here then is a list of thosebrave men followed by their fourteen game average; Jack Balogansky 15.1, Jim Chapman 20.0, Charlie Fox 2.0, Tim Grazio 9.6, Bob Moraldo 3.0, Francis Palermo 5.7, Dancing Dennis Roberts 1.57, John Skwierz 12.0, Wayne Stewart 10.5, and Brian Mcßride shooting at a 7.3 clip. As you can .see, the whole team played well. Next year should be even better. The wrestling team was another story, however. Their record was a dismal 1-9, but that is not the whole story. The team often found itself short of grapplers for certain classes, thus forcing them to fight uphill after forfieting those matches. That was unfortunate because the campus has some good wrestlers who wrestled in high school. Next year the team would like to have more people out, so all of you guys who would like a little physical exercise and some good, clean fun, practice this summer. Maybe your little brother can help you out. Many interesting holds cna also be found at your local drive-in theater. And a final note: As many of you know, Oaklahoma recently forfieted the Sugar Bowl after a recruiting no-no. I share the sentiments of many a fan. This is just another example of the sorry situation of amateur sport in America. The players involved didn't even know what was happening, and although they had nothing to do with it, they were still punished with a year suspension, a real bummer, so to speak. CHEAP SHOTS: The Highacres Tennis Club started practice with good players and an inversely proportional amount of good weather...lntr amural soccer has begun, but it is too early to tell what team is going to represent Highacres at the World Cup, Ha—Ha... The Second Floor softball team is beginning to pull away... unfortunately, I don't know- to gross Girls' Spring Sports by Mary Angie DeLazio GIRL'S SPORTS Attention, girls! The time has come to get the tennis rackets, softball gloves, and sneakers out of the closet and put them to good use. The weather is beautiful, and Penn State has the facilities for almost any athletic endeavor. We should take advantage of these facilities. In the fall term, there was volleyball, in the winter term there was basketball, now during the spring term, Mrs. Jago has decided to let the decision of picking the sport up to the girls. So girls, if you want to exercise and have fun at the same time, try to get a team organized. If you want volleyball, tennis, softball or bowling, it is up. to you to see if enough girls are interested in playing the same sport. Mrs. Jago will available to help anyone who needs assistance in the organization of a team. She will also make the necessary equipment available to the girls who are interested in playing a sport. If any problem arises or you just want to get advice on the subject of organizing a team, contact Mrs. Jago. A softball team is now being formed in the dorms. All interested girls may sign up with Eileen Munro. If softball isn't your sport, it is up to you to try to get your sport started. Spring is here, so enjoy it! INTERMURALS The intermural six man soccer league started play on April 24. There are six leagues in the league and each will play ten games. 'The schedule is divided into a first- and second-half. If one team wins both halves they will be declared champs, but if two different teams win each half, they will then play-off for the championship at the end of May. The teams are made up of players who have extensive experience to those who have very little. The teams played fairly evenly in their first games on Apris 24 as the following scores indicate: Ken's Pens-3, Schaffer's Scuffers—O; Wallie's Follies--4, Ack's Hackers-3; Faculty Packers-4, Ib's Libs-1. The games scheduled for April 26 were washed out; hopefully the weather will improve so that the teams will not have to make up too many games. ARCHERY This spring Mr. Biggers, Bill Crompton and about ten other students are trying, to get archery intramurals going. At this time, the group has reserved the field for Wednesday evening starting at 5:30 and Saturday afternoons and possibly for other times through the week when the athletic field is not being used. In the future, the group may set up and shoot some tournaments. Students who may want to join the existing group can do so by contacting Mr. Biggers or Bill Crompton in the dorm. It is necessary for you to be able to shoot, and you should have some of your own equipment, if possible. Other students are advised to be sure no one is shooting before they start walking across the athletic field.
