The petition in California (EARTH NEWS) The California petition which is seeking to place the decriminalization of marijuana on the November ballot has received the official "OK" from the State's Attorney General's Office. Members of the California Marijuana Initiative (CMI) organization announced this week that they are now in the process of circulating approved petitions to gather a required 350,000 signatures. The proposed law change simply repeals all state laws which impose criminal penalties on possessors of grass. The sale of marijuana will still be illegal. A spokesman for CMI said the organization will attempt to gather at least half-a-million signatures, most of them on college campuses, before a July 3rd deadline. California is one of three states which is currently attempting to decriminalize pot with a vote on the November ballot. The other two are Arizona and Washington.
