acres Collegian DR. LATTMAN SPEAKS TO STUDENTS Dr. Lawrence Lattman, Professor of Geology at P.S.U., Main Campus, spoke to a group of students and guests on Friday evening, May 24. The lecture scheduled, "The Age of Scientific Thought", was re placed with a lecture concerning the geological basis for many of the myths expounded in the Old Testa ment. Dr. Lattman explained that many of the miracles stated in the Old Testament were nothing more than geological phenomona. For example, the legend of the Nile turning into a river of blood was caused by a land slide, which caused an excessive amount of red mud to fill the river and turn its colorto a reddish shade. He went on to reveal many of the other supposed "miracles" as geo logically based. He concluded on a religious note, however, by stating that in his own opinion, the real miracle of the Old Testament was the Ten Commandments. For he feels that no code of laws either before or after them are equal to the signi ficance they had on society. This is what he feels is divine in the Old Testament.
