    GOOD OLD DAYS
S.G.A. HOLDS ELECTIONS
On October 13th, all students were
given the opportunity to choose the oc
cupants of the two vacant seats on the
Student Government Association. Only
sixty-five percent of the students voted,
but those who did know that they were
doing their duty as a Penn State student.-
These students voted for two from a
slate of six. In alphabetical order,- the
candidates were: Jon O'Connell, Larry
Dauksis, Helen Floyd, Ed Haburshak, John
Hollick, and Tom Yurick.
Wien the polls closed, the ballots
were counted by the newly appointed
election board. Members of the board are
Anna Mae Cherenyock, Steve Haraschak, Ed
Skernolis, Robert Weber, and Joseph Zola,
chairman. The winners of the election
were Larry Dauksis and Ed Haburshak.
Both Ed and Larry feel that it is a
great privilege and an obligation to hold
a seat on the council. They expressed
pride in having bees chosen as represen
tatives of the students, and they also
feel that an honor has been bestowed upon
them. They hope that in return they can
bestow honor upon Highacres.
ALUMNI ENJOY HOMECOMING
Penn State's annual homecoming,
held on October 23, 1965, was well at
tended by the alumni. The former Penn
Staters were off on their individual
experiences elaborating on the home
coming theme. Posters, banners, and
lawn displays all expressed in some
size, shape or form their sponsor's
interpretation of the theme.
One of the highlights of the Home
coming was the selection of the Home
coming queen. From a field of 105 ap
plicants, 25 semi-finalists were chosen.
Then, a panel of six faculty and admin
istration judges selected six finalists-*
The final decision was made by the foot
ball team. At a Friday night pre-game
pep.'"rally, the name of the 1965 Home
coming queen was revealed. She is Sue
Hawthorn, a fourth term Education major
from Butler, Pennsylvania.
Before the game on Saturday, the
queen was escorted onto the field by
the U.G.A. president, who presented
her to her subjects. ..
During the game, Penn State's Blue
Band presented a "Salute to Hum",, hon
oring Dr. Hummel Fishburn, a member of
the Penn State staff for forty years.
He was director of the Penn State Blue
Band from 1939-1947, and,‘-at the time of
his retirement last July, he was head of
the Music and Music Education Department
at Penn State.
The football game and the post
game parties and activities all added to
the enjoyment of the alumni and other
weekend gu#«its at the University. In
short, the 1965 Penn State Homecoming
was a tremendous success from start to
finish.
