GOOD OLD DAYS S.G.A. HOLDS ELECTIONS On October 13th, all students were given the opportunity to choose the oc cupants of the two vacant seats on the Student Government Association. Only sixty-five percent of the students voted, but those who did know that they were doing their duty as a Penn State student.- These students voted for two from a slate of six. In alphabetical order,- the candidates were: Jon O'Connell, Larry Dauksis, Helen Floyd, Ed Haburshak, John Hollick, and Tom Yurick. Wien the polls closed, the ballots were counted by the newly appointed election board. Members of the board are Anna Mae Cherenyock, Steve Haraschak, Ed Skernolis, Robert Weber, and Joseph Zola, chairman. The winners of the election were Larry Dauksis and Ed Haburshak. Both Ed and Larry feel that it is a great privilege and an obligation to hold a seat on the council. They expressed pride in having bees chosen as represen tatives of the students, and they also feel that an honor has been bestowed upon them. They hope that in return they can bestow honor upon Highacres. ALUMNI ENJOY HOMECOMING Penn State's annual homecoming, held on October 23, 1965, was well at tended by the alumni. The former Penn Staters were off on their individual experiences elaborating on the home coming theme. Posters, banners, and lawn displays all expressed in some size, shape or form their sponsor's interpretation of the theme. One of the highlights of the Home coming was the selection of the Home coming queen. From a field of 105 ap plicants, 25 semi-finalists were chosen. Then, a panel of six faculty and admin istration judges selected six finalists-* The final decision was made by the foot ball team. At a Friday night pre-game pep.'"rally, the name of the 1965 Home coming queen was revealed. She is Sue Hawthorn, a fourth term Education major from Butler, Pennsylvania. Before the game on Saturday, the queen was escorted onto the field by the U.G.A. president, who presented her to her subjects. .. During the game, Penn State's Blue Band presented a "Salute to Hum",, hon oring Dr. Hummel Fishburn, a member of the Penn State staff for forty years. He was director of the Penn State Blue Band from 1939-1947, and,‘-at the time of his retirement last July, he was head of the Music and Music Education Department at Penn State. The football game and the post game parties and activities all added to the enjoyment of the alumni and other weekend gu#«its at the University. In short, the 1965 Penn State Homecoming was a tremendous success from start to finish.
