Page Four THIS EXHIBIT was supplied through the courtesy of Mr. Robert Way of Wilkes-Barre and Mr. Hammonds of University Park. Its purpose was to promote Continued Education in the Hazleton Area. THE WOODEN MODEL OF THE SCOTCH YOKE MECHANISM and the sample drawing of a dye design was part of the engineering exhibit in the basement of the Main Building. HIGHACRES STUDENTS POLLED The following are responses of some of the student body at High acres to the question: Do you think that the voting age should be lowered to 18? Mary Ellen Williams (1 Chem Tech) — “Yes, at 18 a person is old enough to have some ideas about who should run his country. There are some 18 year olds who know more than adults who are much older and already have the vote. Young people have young ideas and are more interested in polit ical matters.” Kathy Lutcavage (1 Chem Tech) — "No. People under the age of 21 do not know enough about govern ment. Young people can be swayed by the looks and personality of a candidate.” HIGHACRES COLLEGIAN Tom Murmello (4 DDT)— “If I am old enough to fight for my country and die for my country, then I am certainly old enough to vote at 18.” Jim Ross (1 Ed)— “No. Young people do not have sufficient knowledge to vote. Some young people do not even care about whether they vote or not.” John Sehar (4 Phys Ed) — “If we can be drafted, we should be able to have something to say about the way our government is run.” Paulette Platukis (1 LA) — “No. The present age, 21, is old enough for assuming the respon sibility to vote, since half the people who are 21 do not take voting seriously.” Students Transfer For Winter Term The following is a list of stu dents who are transferring to University Park next term: Bro yan, Joseph G.; Churilla, Charles; Czar, Michael; Devigili, Lewis; Dusheck, David; Evanofski, Bar bara; Getz, Andrew; Gido, John; Hutta, Papl; Klinetob, Carl; Lutz, Robert; Malitsky, Henry; Mehal ick, Edward; Milora, Stanley; My let, Philip; Nalevanko, Joseph; Perzel, George; Rhinard, David; Solt, Clarence; Sterenchock, Ste ven; Tito, Frank. Most of the games were close, indicating the spirit of competition is high in the league. The surprise of the league is the undersized team, the “Animals,” which is composed of players from the Panther Valley Area. Led by captain, Nick Kashuta, the “An imals” have won their first three games and are currently challeng ing the “Dukes” for ■leadership in the league. In addition to Nick Kashuta, the “Animals” are com posed of Dave Malkin, Dennis Cipko, Martin Kodlick, Tom Potance, Ron Reid, Ed Gurka, Mike Steber, John O’Connell, and John McGroarty. The youth of today are more ed ucated in the ways of govern ment.” Joe Velitsky (4 LA) — “The average 18 year old today is much more informed than his counterpart of previous years. He is more than aware of the respon sibilities involved in voting; there fore, he should have the vote.” BOWLING TEAMS VIE FOR HONORS Intra-mural bowling has begun this term at Highacres.
