December 6, 1963 FALL SOCIAL EVENTS HUGE SUCCESS AT H.U.C. Students at Beatnik Dance On November-.; B,; r a Beatnik dance was -held in the HUB Caf eteria from 9 p. m. until midnight. Music was provided by the Vel monts, and refreshments were Served during the intermission. Costumes were sported by many in a range stemming from radical to conservative Beatnik attire. An enjoyable evening was had by ev eryone in attendance. Sorority Banquet The Theta Sigma Pi Service Sorority held a banquet at Sing ley’s Steak House on December 3 at 7 p. m.- At this banquet, gifts were brought by each sorority member for the benefit of the un derprivileged children who will participate in the Christmas party given for them on December 22 by the Student Government Asso ciation and the .Student Union Board. This banquet was the soror ity’s final social function, for the fall term. Christmas Party Soon The Student Government Asso ciation and the Student Union Board are planning the annual Christmas party for underprivi leged children of the Hazleton area. The party will provide en tertainment for the children, and gifts will be presented to them. All the local merchants are urged to give their full support to this worthy program 1 by providing toys and gifts to the delegated Students soliciting their support. The Penn State -Center and its thirteen Commonwealth Campuses were represented at the fall meeting.. .. by approximately sixty delegates and fifteen faculty advisors. Official host for the af fair "was Richard Groyich, presi dent of the Hazleton 0, S. G. A. Prom 4 until 6 p.m. on Novem ber Ijf the agenda included the first general session, greetings from the host campus, dinner, and various discussion: groups. The annual Harvester’s dance was held from 9 p.m. to mid night, and music was provided,by the Velmonts. During the affair, there was a presentation of the key to the city by Qouncilman Wilbur Koch to the 0. S. G. A. President Joseph Tipping. . The dance was open to the public, and an enjoyable evening was hgd by all in attendance. ; On November 2, the discussion groups continued from 9 to 10:45 a.m., followed by the second gen eral session. The luncheon meet ing was held at 12:00 in the Stu dent Union Building. ‘ During the luncheon, Congress man Daniel ‘J. Flood who was main speaker took part in 1 a question and answer session with the students. Topics included South Viet- Nam, the Pennsylvania State Constitution, the Diem as j sasination, and the current split - between Red China and Russia. He also commented that he spent i his spare time between immediate i problems of state and national I problems. Mr. Merle E. S. G. A. Conference a most memorable one.” Page Thre^ On Friday, November 22; -..a Hootenanny was held in the HUB Cafeteria. Music was provided by the Townsmen, who gave .a great performance. The affair began, at 9:30. The doors were open during the two intermissions which lasted from 10:00 until 10:15 and from 10:45 until 11:00. No one was ad mitted during , the. performance. The event proved to be one of the most entertaining ■ of the, fall term, and the attendance was overwhelming. WILL YOU GIVE? Students are requested to cop tribute gifts of old or new toys for the underprivileged children's Christmas party, which is spon sored by the Highacres Sorority- Dance Held The annual Thanksgiving Eve Dance was held on Wednesday, November 27. All Penn State Stu dents and their guests attended the event. Refreshments were served during intermission.
