Basketball Team Wins Final Game;
Pugliese High Scorer For Season
The Highacres’ team’s last game
was played against Scranton PSU
at Grebey Junior High, Wednes
day, March 6, at 7 p. m. The
Hazleton team came out with their
sixth victory of the season. The
score was 80-69. Pugliese was high
for the local five with 31 points.
Fulton and Scheidy also did well
in the scoring department with 20
and 13 points respectively. Rapes,
Baigis, and Michael contributed 16
points among them.
The Hazleton Campus quintet
got into the winning column
earlier in the term by celebrating
Washington’s birthday in an 82-73
Overtime triumph over the Scran
ton PSU team. Behind by seven
points wits less than two minutes
remaining in regulation time,
Hazleton staged a rousing come
back and knotted the score at 65-
65. In the five-minute overtime
period, Hazleton outscored Scran
ton 17-8 to win by a comfortable
margin. Pugliese, Scheidy, and
Fulton combined their efforts of
29, 21, 20, respectively, to fill the
gap left by the absent Rosenstock.
Rapes started at one of the guard
slots, and played well in reserve.
Boettger and Randis also contrib
uted 12 points to the winning
cause.
Still smarting from an earlier
trouncing at Ringston, a deter
mined local aggregation met the
undefeated Ring’s Frosh team at
HHS. However, Ring’s was not to
be denied and handed Hazleton a
101-63 defeat. Rosenstock and
Boettger combined for 24 points.
The absence of the ill Harry
Scheidy, regular forward, was a
major factor in the lop-sided
score. Hamm led all scorers with
24 points.
On February 2, 1963, the team
braved hazardous driving condi
tions to travel to Wilkes-Barre to
play the Wilkes College Frosh
team. Upon arrival, notification
was received that the Wilkes team
had been dissolved. This went on
record as a 1-0 forfeit for Hazle
ton. For statistical purposes, the
one point was awarded to Charles
Rapes, reserve guard and acting
captain for that game.
On January 28, 1963, the Hazle
ton Campus cagers entertained an
aggressive freshman squad from
the University of Scranton. After
keeping close for the first half,
the locals fell behind and ended up
on the short end of a 75-66 score.
Hazleton had four men in double
figures but needed a little more
scoring punch. Rosenstock ajdd
Scheidy were high with 17 apiece,
followed by Pugliese and Fulton
with 13 and 12, respectively.
Yucka and Rrupinski led Scranton
HIGHACRES COLLEGIAN
with 20 each,
Through nine games, the local
five averaged a sizeable 70 points
