Page Four Basketball Team Wins Final Game; Pugliese High Scorer For Season The Highacres’ team’s last game was played against Scranton PSU at Grebey Junior High, Wednes day, March 6, at 7 p. m. The Hazleton team came out with their sixth victory of the season. The score was 80-69. Pugliese was high for the local five with 31 points. Fulton and Scheidy also did well in the scoring department with 20 and 13 points respectively. Rapes, Baigis, and Michael contributed 16 points among them. The Hazleton Campus quintet got into the winning column earlier in the term by celebrating Washington’s birthday in an 82-73 Overtime triumph over the Scran ton PSU team. Behind by seven points wits less than two minutes remaining in regulation time, Hazleton staged a rousing come back and knotted the score at 65- 65. In the five-minute overtime period, Hazleton outscored Scran ton 17-8 to win by a comfortable margin. Pugliese, Scheidy, and Fulton combined their efforts of 29, 21, 20, respectively, to fill the gap left by the absent Rosenstock. Rapes started at one of the guard slots, and played well in reserve. Boettger and Randis also contrib uted 12 points to the winning cause. Still smarting from an earlier trouncing at Ringston, a deter mined local aggregation met the undefeated Ring’s Frosh team at HHS. However, Ring’s was not to be denied and handed Hazleton a 101-63 defeat. Rosenstock and Boettger combined for 24 points. The absence of the ill Harry Scheidy, regular forward, was a major factor in the lop-sided score. Hamm led all scorers with 24 points. On February 2, 1963, the team braved hazardous driving condi tions to travel to Wilkes-Barre to play the Wilkes College Frosh team. Upon arrival, notification was received that the Wilkes team had been dissolved. This went on record as a 1-0 forfeit for Hazle ton. For statistical purposes, the one point was awarded to Charles Rapes, reserve guard and acting captain for that game. On January 28, 1963, the Hazle ton Campus cagers entertained an aggressive freshman squad from the University of Scranton. After keeping close for the first half, the locals fell behind and ended up on the short end of a 75-66 score. Hazleton had four men in double figures but needed a little more scoring punch. Rosenstock ajdd Scheidy were high with 17 apiece, followed by Pugliese and Fulton with 13 and 12, respectively.
