Glee Club Meets On Monday evening, October 8, at 7:30, the first meeting of the Hazleton Highacres’ Glee Club was held in the cafeteria of the Student Union Building. Mr. Burt ton E. Hall, teacher and chorus director at Hazleton High School, will be the director of the newly organized group. There were 13 in attendance and the membership is still open. Mr. Hall would like at least 28 or 30 members. Various engagements will be arranged for the group throughout the Hazleton area. HIGHACRES COLLEGIAN Library Rules And Regulations The library is opened every day from 8:40 to 4:55. Books may be charged out for two weeks with the privilege of renewal, A fine of two cents a day is charged for overdue books, pam phlets, and periodicals. A fine of twenty-five cents for the first hour and ten cents for each additional hour is charged for overnight books. Periodicals may be charged out for one week with the privilege of renewal, There will be no smoking or loud talking in the library. If you have any questions, please ask your librarian, CAMPUS SORORITY HOLDS ELECTIONS; KAY YENCHO PRES. Early in the term, at an informal meeting of the Theta Sigma Pi Sorority the following officers were elected: President Kay Yencho; Vice-President Carol Janasik; Secretary—Darilyn Clark; Publicity Chairman—Kath leen Botchick; and Treasurer Geneva Avillion. On Thursday, October 4, twenty four new freshmen girls were formally initiated at a candle-light ceremony which climaxed two days of initiation procedure. The affair took place at 8 p. m. in the SUB of the Hazleton Campus. Shortly afterward, a business meeting was held with Miss Yen cho presiding. Tentative plans for a hayride were discussed. JOHN ROSENTOCK IS RE-ELECTED BY BELLES-LETTRES Attendance was high at the first meeting of the Belles-Lettres So ciety, October 4, at which tim.e the members nominated and elected officers for the Fall term. They are as follows: President - John Rosenstock; Vice-President Gregg Smith; and Secretary- Treasurer—Carmeia Sacco. This year, Belles-Lettres hopes hopes to continue its ambitious tradition and further benefit -the campus by drawing up a pamphlet history of Highacres, entitled, “Restrospect.” All Belles-Lettres members are asked to support this year’s special project. The Belles-Lettres Society an nounced its enthusiasm for an other year of “beautiful letters,” and welcomes especially into its membership those students who wish to promote the cultural life of Hazleton Campus through their active participation in its many club functions. Indeed, last year’s Belles-Lettres activities provide this year’s members with a chal lenging path to tread. Among the club’s accomplishments during the fall, winter, and spring terms of 1960-61 were an art exhibit spon sored by the Hazleton Art League, two dramatic reading festivals on both high school and college levels, and a bus trip to a New York Broadway play.
