SPORTS
CORNER
Two predictions of mine went
down the drain this week. The
Boston Bruins were dumped by
the Montreal Canadians and the
Knickerbockers were edged by
the Baltimore Bullets. Well, now
it’s time for some second
guessing: In the Stanley Cups it
will be the Blackhawks (at least
one Esposito has to make) and in
the NBA Lew Alcindor will lead
the Bucks to their first World
Championship. I won’t have to do
any second guessing for my
baseball predicition. Take note:
Big Scoop and Ron Wasson...
Philadelphia’s spanking new
Veterans Stadium is establishing
itself as a “long ball” park. Home
runs are flying out of the new
field quicker than Frank Luc
chesi would care to count them.
In the 50-yard backstroke, Rick
Winkleman of Behrend set a new
record of 29.9. Rick was followed
by Bill O’Kelly, finishing second
at 30.19.
Behrend took first place in the
200-yard medley relay with the
team of Winkleman, Fresch,
Lampe, and Von Kaenel in the
time of 1:55.3, a new meet record.
Rippers swam to a first place in
the 100-yard freestyle in 59
seconds. Bruce Gerbi placed
eighth for Behrend in 1:04.7. Bill
O’Kelly and Bob Kink copped a
first and second in the 100-yard
individual medley with times of
