Talk of a ‘real’ world series has
been making the rounds in the big
league circuit. Japanese baseball
supporters feel they are ready to
take on the American Major
league champions. Two of the top
Japanese ball clubs spent their
spring traveling throughout the
Grapefruit League in Florida and
Arizona opposing the ‘home’
talent. The two foreign teams
made a respectable showing in
their spring training bouts but
are still a few years away from
competing on an even basis with
American baseball... Leave it to
the Mets! The New York team
has had forty-four (44) third
basemen in their 10 year
existence... Who’s going to win
the Stanley Cup? Phil Esposito
and his Boston Bruins, who else!
With Boston’s awesome offense, I
don’t foresee any roadblocks on
their way to another Cup
Dealing in the NBA-ABA merger
revolves around the fact that the
owners must find a plan which
will also be approved by
Congress. Once this is worked out
progress should come quickly. I
don’t think all of the ABA fran
chises will be included in the
merger. A study has already
been done to determine which
Intramural

organizing an intramural
softball team are asked to

they prefer, if there are class
conflicts. The use of cleats
will not be permitted.
Officials are also needed
for the games. Officials will
receive $l.OO per game.
There will be a spring
organizational soccer
meeting to be held Monday,
April 19, promptly at 4:30

league... Two upcoming college
seniors marked to be absolute
star guarantees by pro scouts in
the NBA are forward Sidney
Wicks and guard Austin Carr ...
Wes Parker, of the Los Angeles
Dodgers sure isn’t making
friends with fellow baseball
players. Parker recently made a
statement condemning the high
salaries star players are
receiving as ‘detrimental to the
game of baseball.’ Parker
presently collects a paycheck in
the neighborhood of $75,000. His
salary was doubled from last
season. I wonder if Mr. Parker
will ask for a raise next
year?...The State of Penn
sylvania intends to include
visiting professional athletes in
their 3.5 percent income tax. For
example, Bob Gibson of the
Cardinals earns approximately
$150,000 per annum. The baseball
season is 180 days long and
Gibson’s team plays Pittsburgh 9
in days. That’s one-twentieth of
the season and at 3.5 percent
that’s a $260 bill for Mr. Gibson.
Ridiculous!!!!
As academic climates go, that’s something
special.
But that’s only part of it The University
of Miami has all the standards you're
looking for in a school. Full accreditation.
And a liberal policy when it comes to trans
ferring the credits you’ve already earned.
A roster of faculty members that commands
respect in academic circles across the
country. A complete program of studies to
carry you through a Bachelor’s degree
to a Doctorate, if that's your goal. In virtually
any field you have in mind. Business. Law.
The arts. Medicine.

Villa College 48-38. Behrend,
At the University of Miami,
both semesters are spring.
Learning, however, is hard work. Which is
a sound reason to accomplish it in a climate
that’s easy on you. You'll have as much free
time as any other college student—and
plenty more to do with it. And, let's face it.
a winter cold never helped anybody ace
an exam.

competing with Villa, Mercy
hurst, and St. Vincent,
racked up a 5-1 record to secure
the championship trophy. The
trophy will be presented at the'
annual sports banquet this
Spring.
Against Villa, it was once again
the scoring of Julie Soriero (24
points) that paved the way to
victory. Throughout the season,
Julie tallied 116 points and a 19.3
average.
Supporting Miss Soriero were
Dianne Rossman (9 points), Lucy
Sweely (8 points), Janice Koester
(5 points), and Jeanie Bovard (2
points).
The gal’s coach, Mrs.
Laudensack, smiled from ear to
ear when talking about her
championship team. “I am very
pleased with the effort our girls
showed. They worked hard and
deserved to win. I’d also like to
thank the team manager, Dave
Roycroft, for all his
cooperation.”
