A study has already been done to determine which Intramural Softball Those interested in organizing an intramural softball team are asked to submit a roster to Mr. Onorato’s office in Erie Hall by Tuesday, April 20. Rosters must have a minimum of 12 players. There will be two leagues— a Monday-Wednesday league and a Tuesday- Thursday league. Games will begin at 4:40 p.m. Teams should specify on their roster which league they prefer, if there are class conflicts. The use of cleats will not be permitted. Officials are also needed for the games. Officials will receive $l.OO per game. There will be a spring organizational soccer meeting to be held Monday, April 19, promptly at 4:30 p.m. in Erie Hall. AH 1970 team members and other interested candidates for the 1971 season, who are not participating in a spring sport, are asked to attend. Plans at this time include holding work out sessions three days a week: Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. THENITTANYCUB BEHREND SPORTS AT Tennis Team Too Tough Behrend’s 1971 tennis team will open their new season this Saturday, April 17, against Allegheny Community College South Campus on the home courts. The Cubs will be fielding a young, inexperienced team composed largely of freshmen; but is expected to progress steadily as the season opens. Jay Baker has virtually sealed the number one position on the team with the other spots up for grabs. Players competing for those positions are Bob Mangels, Jim Lyons, John Long, Dave East bum, Rick Cladwell, A 1 Lopus and Tom Gar son. Behrend Girls Crowned Queens By Dave Ruef CUB Asst. Sports Editor The Behr end Girls’ Basketball Team was crowned the “Queens” of their league as they defeated Villa College 48-38. Behrend, At the University of Miami, both semesters are spring. University of Miami competing with Villa, Mercy hurst, and St. Vincent, racked up a 5-1 record to secure the championship trophy. The trophy will be presented at the' annual sports banquet this Spring. Against Villa, it was once again the scoring of Julie Soriero (24 points) that paved the way to victory. Throughout the season, Julie tallied 116 points and a 19.3 average. Supporting Miss Soriero were Dianne Rossman (9 points), Lucy Sweely (8 points), Janice Koester (5 points), and Jeanie Bovard (2 points). The gal’s coach, Mrs. Laudensack, smiled from ear to ear when talking about her championship team. “I am very pleased with the effort our girls showed. They worked hard and deserved to win. I’d also like to thank the team manager, Dave Roycroft, for all his cooperation.” INTRAMURALS There will be an important meeting in the gym on Monday, April 19, at 7 p.m. concerning girl’s intramurals in softball, tennis, and badminton. A GLANCE Baseball Season Opens Behrend Campus opened its 1971 baseball season Wednesday at 1:00 against Ashtabula Campus of Kent State on our home field. The probable starting lineup was set as of Monday by Coach Stoner. Leading off, playing left field was Donny Hill. Terry Kestle, star second baseman, batted in the second slot. Right fielder Tom Harvey batted third, followed by catcher Jim Greishaber, centerfielder Don Raydo, third baseman Bob Marks, Dave Ruef at first base, shortstop Denny Pattyn, and finally starting pitcher Mark Lytle. Tom Wright, Dwight Weibel, and Mike Kushinikov were set for relief duty. Coach Stoner was optimistic in talking about an opening day victory. He hopes that the team will gain good support from the student body and promised lots of exciting baseball for all who attend the games.
