Spoils Behrend closed out its' regular basket ball season Saturday night with an impressive win over The McKeesport Campus 82-75. The win brought the season record to 11-9. Teamwork was the decisive factor in the game as the Cubs displayed good ball control and worked well together - something they had not done in the past. Dan Fry was high scorer with 19 followed by 11 owie McGregor with 16. Next weekend the Cubs travel to University Park to participate in the Commonwealth Campus Tournament. Also playing in the tournament will be the Altoona, McKeesport, and New Kengsington Campuses. For those of you who plan on attending, the championship game mill be played Saturday at 3:00 p.m.. Howie McGregor, captain and team leader of this year's basketball team, has been sel ected as "Athlete of the Week." An Erie native, Howie played junior var sity basketball at Academy before moving to Bethel Park, where he played senior high ball. Although an early season injury has bothered him, Howie has shown much aggressiveness in every game this year. Last Saturday was no exception, when he made three of five shots from the floor, and ten out of fourteen from the free throw line. Coach Sweeting remarked, "Howie's great playing Saturday night against McKeesport was definitely a big factor in our winning that game." For the season McGregor has played in 16 games with an average of 10.3 points per game. He has scored 60 field goals and 45 free throws for a total of 165 points. His 70% shooting record from th foul line made him one of the team leaders in that department. BASEBALL ANNOUNCEMENT Due to the importance of academic studies, baseball practice will not start until the end of this term. Prospective candidates should start training themselves, according to Coach Sweeting. Anyone interested in try ing cut for baseball should eontact the coach within the next week. This is to allow him to talk informally with the candidates, to make suggestions regarding conditioning progress, and to let them know when the sea son officially begins. The Cubs ended their wrestling season with two defeats this past week. Saturday, February 17 the Cubs went to Clarion, Pa. and got shut out 36-0. All of the Cubs got pinned but Ken Carpenter and Al Dorchester, they lost by decisions. The Cubs points were scored by Ken Carpenter who tied his opponent. The Cubs got 5 points for a forfeit in the 177 lb. class. The rest of the Cubs were pinned except Mike Velmer and Al Dorchester who lost by decisions. Behrend is sending three wrestlers to the Region XV Wrestlers Tournament in Long Island, N.Y. They will leave Thursday February 29, 1968 and return Sunday March 3rd. They will wrestle on March Ist and 2nd. "UNSUNG"FENCERS, RIFLEMEN HAVING STANDOUT SEASONS (University Park, Pa., Feb.) Fencing and rifle, teams normally overshadowed by basketball, wrestling and gymnastics, are producing standout records at Penn State this winter. Coach Dick Klima's fencers have won 4 straight --- against Buffalo, John Hopkins, Syracuse and Brooklyn College --- after dropping their first two to Temple and Newark College of Engineering. The fencers will play host to City College of New York this Saturday. State's rifle team (3-1), which suffered its first loss of the season last Saturday against unbeaten Navy, entertains ,another national --- West Virginia --- one week from Saturday (Feb. 24). Coached by Captain Dundas Orr, State's team owns victories over Cornell, Lehigh and Indiana (Pa.) State and Carnegie Mellon in a triangular match. PATERNO "MAN OF THE YEAR" (University Park Pa.) Penn State football coach Joe Paterno, who led the 1967 Nittany Lions to an 8-2 record and the Lambert Trophy enroute to a berth in the Gator Bowl, is to be honored by the Brooklyn Prep alumni association at its annual dinner Feb. 21 in Brooklyn. Paterno, class of 1945 at Brooklyn Prep, will receive his alma mater's "Men of the Year" award for 1967 as the school outstanding alumnus. last years recipient was Joseph A.
