Sports cubs drop The Behrend soccer team ended a four game home stand, and began a three-game road trip on a losing note, dropping a hard-fought contest to Lorain, 5-0, Saturday, and losing to Fredonia on Tuesday, 3-0. Lorain controlled the ball for most of the game with consistent penetration of the Cubs' defense on the mud-slicked field, taking over 40 shots. The Cleveland, Ohio, team held a 2-0 halftime lead, and continued to dominate throughout the second half, scoring one goal in the third quarter and two in the final period. Coach Onorato . conmented on the game by saying, "They (Lorain) undoubtedly had the best-organized team we've played yet this year. I feel that we played one of our better games, but they were a better team and outplayed us." Although it was a losing effort, the Cubs showed tremendous spirit and never gave up. Tuesday's loss to Fredonia was a heart llreaking one for the Cubs. Behrend dis played better ball control than the "Blue Devils" from Fredonia, but the offensive front line was ineffective inside the goal area. The score at halftime was 2-0 with the "coup de gras" being delivered in the final period. Right wing Torn Lohse dribbles the ball past the half line in the game against Fredonia. The BCABC held elections for officers Wednesday night. The results are as follows: Vice President Gary lackovic Secretary Jackie Robinson Treasurer Al Dorchester Publicity Chairman Mike Sulieski Membership Chairman Mike Velmer Wrestling practice begins Nov. 1. All wrestlers should have their physical by then. RECORD NOW 1-4 * * * ELECTION RESULTS WRESTLING two more games Although the records don't show it, the Behrend soccer team has displayed a tremendous effort in all of their games this season. A consistent leader of the team, center halfback, Bill Benko, had been on defense. The game captain for the last five games, Bill has been chosen to be the "Athlete of the Week." "Willie; a returning letterman from last year, graduated from Cathedral Prep in 1966, where he was a defensive halfback on the football team. Bill, however, made the switch from football to soccer as if he were a natural. In the last two games against Lorain and Fredonia, Bill has proven outstanding defensive ability by breaking up numerous scoring drives. Particularly known for his "heading" the ball, Bill is an invaluable member of the team and an inspiration to his freshman team members. This year's soccer season is slowly draw ing to a close with only two games to go. This Saturday, October 28th, will be the Cubs sixth game of the year. They will take on well equipped Erie County Tech, a junior college from Buffalq New York. The action will get underway at 2:00 on their field. This Saturday's game should be completely different than last year's game. Last year the C-bs lost to Erie County Tech by a score of 7-0 on our own field. This year's much better coon dineted team should upset the Buffalo team and take our second victory of the season. On Tuesday, October 31, the Cubs will meet again with Dußois Campus of PSU. This "hallowed" encounter takes place at Dußois at 3:30. As the seventh and last game of the season, the Cubs will be out to duplicate their previous victory over Dußois. The season's opener saw Behrend defeat Dußois 5-2 on our own field. Dußois is the only sister campus Behrend plays in soccer and competition is always at its highest when they meet. Last year we played them twice and tied twice by scores of 2-2 and 1-1 respectively. Since both of these are away games the team will be traveling by bus. There will be the possibility of vacant seats to be filled on the bus by spectators. Watch the bulletin boards for farther announcements, or see Coach Onorato. Intermural basketball play begins Nov. 2, 1967. All team rosters should be turned in to Coach Sweeting's office before Oct. 30, 1967. ATHLETE OF THE WEEK PRE-GA's PREVIEWS ~1~4 .IUI ~+' : :: A M:
