C'esf La Vie The older generation has strong memories of Abe Martin, the car toonist-paragrapher. Once old Abe said, “It’s what we learn after we think we know it all that counts.” Ach! What a sad truth. How much sadder that each and every genera tion of youngsters thinks it knows most everything come- 16 or 19 years of age. Maybe it’s because' time passes so slowly for kids they get the idea they’ve been around long enough to know everything by the time they leave high school or college. Apparently each new "gen eration is exactly the same. No older group as yet seems to have found the secret of explaining to its children that one hasn’t learned all there is to learn in the few years between potty marks and party larks. Each adult must suffer for himself the pain of awakening - to the terrible truth that, he’s a bonehead. Maybe that’s why older folks let that awful awakening mo ment for the growing-ups be de layed as long as possible. Worse yet, too many of us are content to stay stupid after we do find out that we are. By GENE NUTTER Marine Captain Woman Mai-ine Captain Mar garet R.
