I have nothing against tractor-trailers. Though they make highway driving a little more dangerous, I realize that this is the price we have to pay for many of the conveniences we enjoy. However, I think it's funny that, every time I'm running a lit tle late for class, I ALWAYS get stuck behind a truck and it's ALWAYS traveling at 3.5 miles per hour. I am usually a patient driver, but this drives me crazy. I have even considered passing them, but common sense always kicks in. I commend the truck drivers for putting safety first, but if I can jog faster than you are driving, YOU'RE GOING TOO SLOW. That is why I support the idea of re-routing the trucks directly to the Route 283 airport exten sion. It's too bad I will probably be bald and forty pounds heavier by the time it happens. But enough of my ranting and raving. There's plenty to talk about this time around. As you probably know by now, Penn State Harrisburg's campus radio station (WPSH) did not launch on Feb. 3 as reported in our last issue. According to Station Manager Angelo Martarano, they were unable to transmit to all of the Olmsted Building and student housing. There is no definite date for when the station will attempt to launch again and Martarano said the frequency has been changed to 89.9. For those of you concerned about recent tuition hikes, SGA members are organizing a Rally at the Rotunda on Mar. 22 at 1 p.m. at the Capitol Building. A couple hundred Penn State, Temple, Pittsburgh and other state-related universities will voice their dismay 'about decreases in state appropriations over the past 30 years. The state once provided two-thirds of Penn State's fund ing whereas now they cover only one third, causing the University to get that money back through tuition increases. The goal is to get 100 people from each PSU branch campus and University Park College to participate. This would mean close to 2,000 students would attend the rally from Penn State alone. A voter registration table will be set up on-site. "The idea is that politicians will pay more attention to you if you are a voter," said Michael Green, junior SGA senator of business. The rally should have a profound effect on our congress, since over half of them are up for re-election this November, In other campus news, the food court in Towne Square has extended its hours on Mondays through Thursdays. It will now be open until 8 p.m. Though the hot bar will continue closing at 7 p.m., students will be able to purchase wraps, soups, coffee, and sodas. Also, they are now offering pizzas to go. Students can fill out a form and give "short advance notice." Students with a discount card can order pizzas over the phone. As a side note, I would like to see the food court have two cashiers working for the dinner rush right before night classes begin. The lines are always fairly long. Finally, don't forget about THON, Penn State's 48-hour dance marathon that supports kids with cancer. The event will be held this weekend and every penny counts. This Tuesday, the THON committee will be hosting a jailbreak from noon until 1 p.m. You can actually have one of your friends or professors arrested by Police Services. It costs $2 to bail out a student and $5 for a professor. You can donate more if you'd like. All you have to do is e mail Jenn Milford at jlms2.o@psu.edu and put in your requests. You can also make donations by stopping in the SGA office in room E-136. Good luck to the dancers Anthony Strayer and Eric Haupt. You guys are doing a great thing and it isn't going unnoticed. 14 15 16 16 COMMENTS FROM THE ECIITOR By PETER STREIIA, EdITOR IN CHIEF
