Now IT IS OFFICIAL, CUTCHALL IS NEW PRESIDENT OF SGA by Stacy De Angelo, Editor in Chief Okay, The Capital Times pulled a "Dewey defeats Truman" by publishing a letter from then president-elect Lee Cutchall before he was actually president of the SGA and a few people had a problem with it. Well, Cutchall is now officially the president and has given Capial Times his first interview as leader of the Student Government Association. Capital Times: What can students expect from you as president? Lee Cutchall: Openness, I am here to represent all the students that attend the Penn State Harrisburg campus. I intend to do this by being available to the students. As I have said previ ously, email me at IgcloB@psu.edu, or AOL IM me at psuhbeprez, any comments or thoughts are welcome. CT: Right now there is very little interclub•relations. OAB (Organizational Advisory Board) did not pan out this past year. Do you have any plans for improvement? LC: Well, I know for next semester, special care was taken by administration to insure common hours were not ignored. From my understanding, there is only one class scheduled during the common hours. The problem with OAB this year was finding a convenient time for everyone to meet. Hopefully, next year a specific meeting time will be set up and OAB will be done in per son again instead of over e-mail. CT: Do you have high hopes for the new SGA? LC: Not to boast, but all members of the new SGA seem really excited and more than happy to be involved and help the campus. I feel that with that attitude alone, a lot will get done. I could not be happier with the group I am going to be working with next year. CT: Is there anything you would like to say to the students and faculty? LC: Besides the usual of urging people to get involved? I would have to say don't be afraid/nervous or disinterested in the other group. For the students, talk to your teachers and fac ulty, you will find they are more than willing to help. On the flip side (is that a professional term?) to the faculty, talk to your students because they have a lot of ideas and feelings about where this campus is going. Not to mention that would help stop some of the pesky rumors that end up going around campus. CT: In what ways do you think you can help increase student involvement? LC: Well, the campus is changing. With the influx of freshmen and the opening of the Towne Square, there will be a lot more opportunities for students to get involved. You cannot force peo ple to get involved, but you open them to the suggestion. CT: If you could change one thing about the SGA or student activities what would it be? LC: I am trying hard, with the help of Nick Pazdziorko, to change the way the SAF Activities Fee) is allocated. using models from several other Penn State campuses, I ensure more and better activi ties here on campus. Also, I am going to try for some events that will focus more on gradu ates. Again, if any graduates would like to contact me with their ideas about what to see on campus, feel free to contact me. CT: What are your plans for after college? LC: Join the Navy. My father was a Marine, my grandfather was in the Navy, and I can't stand living in one place for more than three years. I need to get back on the road. CT: Is there anything else you would like to add? Anything at all LC: Just let your new Editor in Chief know he has big shoes to fill, and of course, Prepare to get wet! (Editor's Note, the last part of this sentence is in refer ence to the water gun fights which are soon to become a tradition between Captimes and SGA.) (Student hope to
