It is now the year of the ram. It is also Black History Month and there is so much going on this month that is worth reporting. There are a lot of festivities that are going into celebrating that on campus, there is the Bachelor/ Bachelorette Event, and my favorite event of all, THON. I'll have you know that there are a few members of The Capital Times staff that have put themselves up for bidding to help raise money for THON. The members being Sarah Elkalban, Jason Russo, Marko Primorac and yours truly. Minimum bids for each bachelor and bach elorette is $5.00 and the event will be held at 5 p.m. Tuesday Feb. 4 in the Auditorium of the Olmsted Building. This is a fun way to help raise money for kids with cancer. The event ends with a group date of pizza and bowling Friday Feb. 7. Who knows maybe you will find Mister or Miss Right on stage! From what you will read in this issue you will get a better idea of what is going on. Steve Standridge gives us a brief history of Black History month and a preview of what PSH has in store for this month. Steve is also planning on doing a fol low up at the end of the month cover ing the events that took place on cam pus. There is an article about THON so you know what to expect from THE WORLD'S LARGEST STUDENT- - RUN PHILANTHROPY. PSH's efforts to raise money were phenomenal com pared to last year, raising over $4,986. THON will be held Feb. 2 lto 23, come show your support for Parul Luthra and Lee Cutchall, PSH dancers. I know I would like as much support from my friends, family, and peers as I could get if I had stand in a hot Rec Hall for 48 hours with no sugar or caffeine. Also worth noting is the progression of the Towne Square; things are almost ready for the clubs to move in. Housing and Food Services, Student Activities, and SGA are moving this week and Captimes is getting ready to follow shortly. This is a good time to throw in something about last week's Clubfest. There was a decent turnout for a spring Clubfest. Captimes was there trying to find some new members to hs,lp with proof reading, and editing. There are plenty of open posi tions so don't be shy. Come up to the office, attend a meeting, e-mail or call us, or even e-mail me personally, we won't turn anyone away unless there is a problem that can't be fixed. Also looking for members were the Photography Club and SGA. Both clubs are in dire need of new members to carry on the clubs next semester. If you are interested in these clubs or others contact the student activities office. My final comments are in regards to Pete Strella's article "The Motherload" in which students are taking too many credits or have more credits than they should for what they do in what little spare time they have. I have felt the pain of 23 credit semesters, luckily with nothing more than one club to attend and a work study job. But like some of the students in this feature, my senior year is quite hectic with 18 credits, 2 jobs, running 2 clubs and being a part of several others and on numerous committees. All I can say is thank you PSU for having wonderful advisors, counsel ing, and student health services for us. I can't tell you what a help these services can be when you start to feel the stress of the semester and of life in general. Don't take these things for granted; remember therapy isn't just acceptable in today's society, its almost mandatory. Don't let yourself be spread too thin, according to our parents; we haven't even hit the real world yet. SUBMIMONFr a.'
