Student Awards Convocation The Student Awards Convocation, honoring those who have made a lasting contri bution to Penn State Harrisburg, was held on April 9 in the Student Center at the Capital Union Building. The award recipients are: Behavioral Sciences and Education Kappa Delta Pi Excellence in Education Award (This is award ed to a senior education student with high academic achievement, a record of service to the campus or community and the potential for positive contributions in the field of education): Linda M. Yon Outstanding Graduate Student in Teaching and Curriculum Program (This is given to a stu dent who is graduating from either the York or Harrisburg campus during the current school year. The criteria for the award include G.P.A., in-class perfor mance as judged by the faculty, and professionalism): Nicole D. Student leaders stood their ground on opposite sides of the Tamhelm ad campaign contro versy. Several clubs took advantage of the luncheon to recognize their individual leaders and advi sors. Members of the Criminal Justice Club, the Adult Honor Society, the Black Student Union, the Psychology Club and the Photo Club took turns at the podium. Jeremiah Sensenig, chair of the awards luncheon committee, announced the winners of the Student Government Awards. According to Lois Cochran, stu dent activities staff member, the awardees were chosen by the Organizational Activities Board. The OAB is composed of rep resentatives of recognized PSH clubs and organizations and chaired by the SGA vice presi dent. The James A. Jordan Memorial Award for Teaching Excellence goes to a faculty member who is nominated by students during spring SGA elec tions. The commitee reviews the nominations and make the final decision. This year’s faculty nominees were Dr. Carol Nechemius, Dr. Thang Bui, Dr. Krishna Dhir, Dr. Alison Duncan Hirsch and Dr. Dorothy King. The winner was Dr. Alison Duncan Hirsch. Dr. Janet Widoff, PSH coordi nator of student activities pre sented two Student Government Association Leadership Awards. As outgoing SGA President Roderick Lee walked to the podi um to receive his award, the guests rose to their feet in a standing ovation. Lee then presented both Leathers and student activities’ staff Widoff, Nancy Leister and Lois Cochran with plaques nam ing them ex-officio members of the Student Government Association in recognition of their contributions to the organization. The ceremony ended with the introduction of the newly elected SGA president and vice president.
