This first signing day 6f the new millennium was a great one for the Nittany Lions and should make most Lion fans happy after a disappointing 1999 season that saw the team finish 9-3 after winning their first nine straight games. This class not only has quanti ty, but also some great quality and because of that, many recruiting analysts rate this group as not only one of the best class es in the Big Ten, but also in the entire nation. In last year’s somewhat dis mal recruiting class, only 11 players were signed and the recruiting class did not even crack the top 20. This year’s picks should make up for that. The Lions signed four Parade All Americans, two from State College Area High School: place-kicker David Kimball and tailback Tony Johnson. Johnson is the brother of sophomore tail back Larry Johnson Jr., and son of defensive line coach Larry Sr. Lineman Chris McKelvy of North Penn High School in Lansdale and quarterback Zac Wasserman of Westlake High School in California are the other two Parade All-American recruits. These four selections are the cornerstones of a recruiting class made primarily of defensive players The Nittany Lions also signed six players from eastern Col ere taxpayers.
