Dr. William Mahar, chair of the Humanities Depart

the arts were an integral part of education. He was
proud of his heritage, his people and his culture."
James Burton, a 1947 graduate of PSH and a former
Black Student Union member, recalled LaGrone's dedi
cation to education and the arts. He called on all stu
dents to "come together and talk about history as well
as the future. It's time we move into the new millen
nium and embrace everyone."
After the unveiling of the bust, awards of apprecia

Minority Academic Excellence Program. PSH profes
