Penn State Harrisburg to Start Educational Broadcasts by Laura Karinch A number of cultural programs and documentaries will be provided to the community by Penn State Harrisburg through CRAT, Capital Region Access Television. The programs can be seen in the Harrisburg area on Channel 16 through Sammons Communications and in the Hershey area through Valley Video. These channels are provided free by the local cable companies for use by local government and educational institutions which serve the public by providing local government information, educational and cultural programs, telecourses, and a message board of information concerning local events and meetings. Penn State Harrisburg and Harrisburg Area Community College share 50% of CRAT's broadcast day, according to Dr. William Mahar, Chairman of the Humanitites Division. The remaining 50% is given to local governments who participate in the programming through the Lower Dauphin Council of Governments. HACC provides the technical support as well as telecourses. As many as six courses have been offered by Capital Times Staff Elects New Editors by Michele Hart Thursday, April 21 was election day for the Capital Times. Five staff members were voted into editor positions. Kimberly Anastas, a senior humanities major who has served as news editor this semester, will take over the duties of editor-in-chief. Anastas also works in the community relations office of Capital College writing press releases. Junior secondary education/English major, Laura Karinch will step into the position of news editor. Karinch served as a staff reporter for the Cap. Times this semester. A Capital Times staff veteran, Joe Kupec will serve as managing editor next fall. Kupec will continue to grace the editorial pages with his cartoons. Two positions that remained vacant this semester are now filled for next fall. Michelle Sutton, a staff writer and production assistant, was elected to the postion of production editor. Sutton's duties will include layout and production of each paper. Scott Levy, a member of the yearbook staff, will be the advertising/business manager next semester. Levy comes to the Capital Times with a strong background in business and advertising. HACC in one semester on CRATV Penn State Harrisburg will be offering several cultural series beainnine next month. These programs can be seen on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 7-8:00 p.m. beginning tentatively on May 9. Three award-winning documentary series will also be sponsored by Penn State Harrisburg and provided via satellite by PLC, the Learning Channel. These series will be: Ordinary People, a 12-part series about the extraordinary lives of everyday people; It's About Time, a series about degree for? ac:VAPOI aging; and Likely Stories, a series of one-hour dramas produced by modern American playwrights. This programming is low cost for everyone because those involved are on a volunteer basis, according to Dr. Mahar.
