Who Will Win the Races? By Ken Shimko Will the Pittsburgh Pirates take the National League pennant this year? Manager Jim Leylund seems to have his pitching staff on the right track. The staff has recorded three shutouts thus far. If the Pitates keep up this pace of winning, they will finish at 108- 54. A .667 winning percentage? The best winning percentage last year was by the Detroit Tigers (98-64, .605). The Pirates are predicted to finish third this season, but if their winning habits continue, their biggest problem might be their opponent for the National League pennant. Jim Leylund knows only to take one game at a time. .Well, Bucs, good luck for the 'BB season! Aundray Bruce, 6'5", 238 out of Auburn will be the first player drafted this year at the 1988 NFL College Draft held April 24. The Atlanta Falcons have already signed Bruce and look forward to the summer mini camps. Tim Brown who? Oh. yea, the Heisman Trophy winner. Scouts are worried that Brown may not live up to their expectations. His toughness and commitment are questionable, but scouts figure he will be drafted in the first round anyway. How about those Orioles? Yes, the O's are nil for 14 so far! No team has done this terribly since the 1920 Washington Senators. Someone had to take the blame, so why not Cal Ripken Sr.? Frank Robinson has taken over now but does not show anything promising. Maybe a trade should be made! The Cleveland Cavaliers have defeated the Celtics three times this year. This is the first time since 1977 the Cavaliers have done so. The Colorado Rockies, I mean the New Jersey Devils, are in the second round of the NHL, playoffs. They defeated the New York Islanders in the first round. They will face off with the Washington Capitals. Former Gold Medalist Mark Breland drew his rematch fight with Marlon Starling. Starling took the title away from Breland last August 22. Former Head Coach Dave Lebo of the Carlisle Thunderin' Herd says his reason for leaving the team is to spend more time with his family and also to watch his son Jeff play his last season at North Carolina. If you are a Carlisle High School basketball fan, you have to wonder why he is quitting. Perhaps a lack of future talent? Not enough money? Why didn't Coach Lebo consider watching his son play three years ago? The name Billy Owens should come to mind. Lions L. Bible Lions L. Bible Lions Phil. Bible Lions Lincoln U Lions Phil.
