    March is Women's History Month
By Kimbelry Anastas
March is Women's History
Month and Penn State Harrisburg is
commemorating it with a series of
events and exhibits related to the theme
"Violence Against Women."
Kathryn Towns, associate
professor of education and psychology,
said Women's History Month is a very
important observance.
Towns said history has been
recorded through the writings of men and
"the story of women and culture has not
been well-told." She said, however,
"Modern feminist writers of both sexes
are determined to 'write women back into
history.' Therefore, her-story is slowly
becoming his-story."
"This year's theme was chosen
because it affects all women, whether
directly or indirectly," said Janet Widoff,
coordinator of student activities.
The three-part information
series begins with a program on date
rape, an issue which has received much
national press attention lately and is
especially pertinent to college campuses,
said Thea Hocker, acting director of
community relations who has been
involved in the planning of this month's
events. A film called "Someone You
Know" will be featured and a speaker
44N0 matter how
bad they are,
Grandma loves
to hear the

from the Rape Crisis Center at the
YWCA will follow the film.
Part two of the series deals with
pornography. A film titled "Not A Love
Story" will be presented to introduce the
serious effects pornography has on both
sexes. A discussion led by Linda
collins, executive director of Women's
Center of Montgomery County, will
follow.
The third part of the series will
feature a panel discussion on "Sexual
Assault and Domestic Violence" by
Barbara Nissley of the Pennsylvania
Coalition Against Rape and Judy
