March is Women's History Month By Kimbelry Anastas March is Women's History Month and Penn State Harrisburg is commemorating it with a series of events and exhibits related to the theme "Violence Against Women." Kathryn Towns, associate professor of education and psychology, said Women's History Month is a very important observance. Towns said history has been recorded through the writings of men and "the story of women and culture has not been well-told." She said, however, "Modern feminist writers of both sexes are determined to 'write women back into history.' Therefore, her-story is slowly becoming his-story." "This year's theme was chosen because it affects all women, whether directly or indirectly," said Janet Widoff, coordinator of student activities. The three-part information series begins with a program on date rape, an issue which has received much national press attention lately and is especially pertinent to college campuses, said Thea Hocker, acting director of community relations who has been involved in the planning of this month's events. A film called "Someone You Know" will be featured and a speaker 44N0 matter how bad they are, Grandma loves to hear the latest kes.,, from the Rape Crisis Center at the YWCA will follow the film. Part two of the series deals with pornography. A film titled "Not A Love Story" will be presented to introduce the serious effects pornography has on both sexes. A discussion led by Linda collins, executive director of Women's Center of Montgomery County, will follow. The third part of the series will feature a panel discussion on "Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence" by Barbara Nissley of the Pennsylvania Coalition Against Rape and Judy Yupcavage of the Pennsylvania You miss her sparkling sense of humor, She misses you and your jokes. An exhibit on Greek Byzantine icons by Vicky Papantoniou is on display in the Gallery Lounge and a poster exhibit featuring „ Women in Higher Education” by Alice Marshall is on display in the Heindel Library Gallery.
