Helping to perpetuate awareness of these issues by educating yourself and others this summer. If these qualifications appeal to you, you may wish to consider spending your summer biking across the country. Last summer 75 enthusiastic Americans, who represented 28 campuses and ranged from 15 to 55 years in age crossed the country on bicycles as part of Bike-Aid 'B6, an event sponsored by the Overseas Development Network. The Overseas Development Network is a nationwide coalition of student volunteers dedicated to educating themselves and others about the issues surrounding global hunger and poverty. In addition to education, the network raises funds to support self-help com munity development projects in the Third World and here in America. The ride in 'B6 netted nearly $lOO,OOO for projects and student internships, as well as supporting other non-profit organi zations with the same self-help philos ophy. Oxfam America, a respected international agency will be included in the proceeds of 'B7. On June 17th, cyclists will depart from four West coast cities: Seattle, Portland, San Francisco, Los Angeles. An Austin, Texas, contingent will depart on July 12th. During the ride, cyclists will visit nearly 225 American cities, meet with locals over evening meals, and take part in com munity service. All groups will meet in Washington, D.C. on August 12, then pedal together to New York on August 19 for two days of festivities. Interested? VanGelder, Pastor Art Students "Alter" the Campus Environment Students in C Art 440 (Art History and Studio:Twentieth Century Issues) have been working on installations throughout the Olmsted Building. These projects represent a contemporary trend in art in which the artist thinks beyond traditional gallery contexts and designs work that interacts with its public environment. Some of the student pieces make whimsical comments on the campus' architecture and some jar the association we have with certain spaces on campus. All of the-pieces are intended to make us take a second look at spaces that generally escape our attention. PSPEC Elects New Officers By Stephen Weir Elections of next year's officers for the Penn State at Harrisburg student chapter of Professional Engineers and Contractors (PSPEC) were held Monday night, March 30, in the Gallery Lounge. This year's officers: James Zik mund--President, Stephen Weir--Vice President, and Maureen Purcell--Secre tary/Treasurer, would like to thank the members who turned out for balloting. The elected officers for next year are: Roy Trent--President, Brian Scandle--Vice President, Michael Phil lips--Secretary, and Brian Schanely-- Treasurer. Presiding over the elections were: Stephen Weir, Maureen Purcell, and Dr. Joseph Cecere, Faculty Advisor for PSPEC. The purpose of PSPEC is to stimulate professional thinking among engineering students and to instill a desire for professional growth. PSPEC is open to all students in the Division of Engineering Technology at Penn State, Harrisburg. Students interested in joining for next year may do so at the start of the fall semester. Several activities, including cookouts and field trips, are already being planned.
