Page 12 Letters To The Editor Soccer Team Captain Angry About Coverage Dear Editor, I'm so glad you put in what you consider fair coverage of the soccer team and its indoor season. That little blurb "sucks" at best. I can't believe some of the shit you print in this joke. Maybe they'll have room for a picture next year. Please print this if you have room (ha!) Sincerely, Captain John Rivell Art is Expression Dear Editor, It has come to our attention that a petition is being circulated to have the art work removed from the lobby. We realize that a petition is a form of expression, but the art work is also a form of expression. One of the objections to the art in the lobby is that it is distasteful. Who the hell said art had to be tasteful? What is tasteful in one mouth is vile in another. Taste is relative. To add insult to injury, the petition is being circulated by some Humanities majors --individuals who should be sensitive to the creative expression of ideas and thoughts. BEDUYA, Box 17145, Tucson, AZ. 85731 Capital Times Springing the Answers on You by Vicki Koon To those of you who answered the question, "Why is there so much apathy on campus?" with "Who cares," suprise, suprise! There are some students here that do care. And there are a few students who care so much that they needed more paper. One student said that we are a "commuter campus with a fairly significant part-time student population. Students have a lot of other distractions." Another elaborated this point by saying,"The student body is too fragmented, (residents, day commuters, night commuters) which makes it difficult for each fragment to care about the others or to join forces to help change the major problem issues. Also as an upper-level college, two years doesn't give much time to address and implement important changes." There was also, "Apathy is easier than bucking the system." And last, but not least, "The military ghost of the past still haunts this building. Conformity not only reigns, it puts us to sleep." To the question, "Would you like to see a daycare facility here?" was answered a resounding "YES!" On respondant asked for Nightcare, too! That it should be paid for by those who use it was only one person's reservation. The third question, "Do you feel your need are being addressed by this community?" was a bit ambiguous, but it drew a few responses anyway. "In the Humanities, yes! Elsewhere I am not so certain." "No. Seminars on stress management and study effectiveness are never offered at night." "No, courses are not always offered when I need them, April 27, 1987 and courses that have to be taken to fit degree requirements are not always the courses that would benefit my career." To the last question, "Are there any improvements or changes that you think could be made to better the educational atmosphere herer responses were varied. "Services and seminars for day students need to be extended to the evenings for the night students as well." "We need more hours for the computer center." "We need more space in the computer center." "We need air conditioning in the computer center." "We need to put a greater emphasis on the arts." "The administration, staff, and faculty need to begin to treat us like adults." "We need a microfilm reader that can display an entire page on its screen." "We need more study space." "We need to exorcise the the military ghost of this buttoned-up and creased building. Strolling minstrels, murals, festivals ... anything outrageous would help." Here's a toast to strolling minstrels. Thanks for your responses. See you in the Fall.
