Students honored for Capitol efforts Lisa Noro Two outstanding Capitol Cam- Eus students have been honored y being named memorial fund recipients. Maryßeth Powell, a senior ac counting major, is the happy recipient of the Dr. John R. Nicnol’s Memorial Scholarship in the amount of $5OO. This award is given by the Women’s Faculty Club in memory of Dr. John R. Nichols, Professor of Social Sciences and Psychology, who died on June 10, 1982. Selection was based on academic achievement, financial need and extra-curricular ac tivities. Eligible students had to be full-time undergraduates, classified as provisional or degree seeking. Powell, of Allentown, currently residing in Meade Heights, said upon learning of her award, “I’d really like to thank my parents just because of the way they raised me. I couldn’t nave won this award without them.” Powell maintains a 3.59 CPA and is involved in the Accounting Club , Student Government, the Cross Country Team and the Cheerleading Squad, just to name a few of her extra curricular activities. Powell’s award will be presented at her graduation on June 18th and she’s looking for ward to surprising her parents, who won’t know until then of their daughter’s achievement. Stephen M. Shemancik, a ninth term finance major in the business administration division, was named recipient of a $l,OOO scholarship grant from the Herbert U. Nelson Memorial Fund of the National Association of Realtors. This scholarship is presented nationwide to outstanding students who are interested in pursuing a full-time career in real estate. After graduating from Penn State’s Berks Campus in Reading in 1974, Shemancik worked in real estate for seven years' before returning to school at Capitol to major in finance and real estate. He currently works part-time appraising real estate for the Jesse Reitenbach Agency. Shemancik maintains a 3.3 GPA and is a member of the Beta Chi Business Club.
