Welcome Students To My Fellow Students: It has been one heck of a summer around here and needless to say, I hope that yours was as enjoyable as mine. I’ve sat in front of this typewriter for some time trying to figure out how to welcome the new students and the returning students in the same sentence, and make it sound original! lam glad that you’ve decided to came here or come back to here, whichever the case may be. Misery loves company. (HA!) A lot has been happenino, over the summer. Most recently, the leaders of the various student organizations and clubs met at the Pocono Enviromental Education Center (PEEC) for a leadership conference. At PEEC, we familiarized ourselves with each other as well as learned some basic theories of leadership. The crux of the three days that we spent there is that, through out interaction prior to the beginning of the school term, we can begin to cooperate with each other with the ultimate result being a better campus for everyone. I’m sure that in the future months you will see some actions that are a direct result of PEEC. Another item is the Book Store Task Force, of which I am a member. We’ve met at regular intervals throughout the summer and a great deal has been accomplished in terms of text book pricing policies. Through the future efforts of Mr. William Kistler, book store manager, a new pricing schedule is being developed so as to effect reduced --in most cases-- prices on your books. Other Task Force members involved are Barry Cline, Bill Foeller, Mark Dorfman, John Taylor, Pearl Prouser and Associate Dean Smith. They all deserve a round of “ATTA-BOYS.” Meet the Reader There will be a C. C. Reader meeting Friday Sept. 21 at 3 p.m. in the Reader office rm. W-129 for all interested people. The Reader offers excellent opportunities for anyone inter ested in journalism. Staff mem bers can work with photogra phy, layout, typesetting, proof reading, copyediting and buis ness aspects of running a col lege paper; as well as editorial, news, feature and sports writing and editing. Beginning Sept. 17 Capitol Area Transit (CAT) buses will arrive and depart, Monday thru Friday, at the front entrance of the Main Building. The first arriving bus will leave Market Square in Harrisburg at 7:10 a.m. and arrive here at 7:45 a.m. in time for the first period class. The second campus For those who do not want to be a staff member but would like to submit articles periodic ally, the Reader more than welcomes these contributions. The Reader also encourages students and faculty to submit short stories, poetry and art work. This term the C. C. Reader will be published each Thurs day. Submission deadline is the Monday prior to the Thursday publication date. Campus bound bus will leave Market Square at 12:10 p.m. and 5:30 p.m.. Buses from campus to Harrisburg will leave at 12:15 p.m. and 5:30 p.m Ticket books of 40 coupons, costing 14 dollars, can be pur- chased in the Student Affairs Office and the Records Office. Some of the future events that you may be interested in are the the upcoming elections to the Student Government Association. These will be held in October and I really think that you should consider running for a position. You know, the SGA can only be as effective as you choose it to be. Without the impetus of the students behind us, we are only a handful of voices. You want a change to be made? Back us! Of course, it goes without saying that no-way-no-how are we going to achieve erroneous goals. Another item for thought is the Provost’s Advisory Committee. This is a committee in which problems can be brought directly to Provost/Dean Gross and input given to the Provost on problems that he brings to us. (I’m a member of that too). The Provost is interested in you as a student. As a matter of fact, he met with the student leaders at PEEC and at that meeting expressed a sincere desire to continue the lines of communication which were being developed during the Spring Term. Well, I guess that for nothing to say I’ve been somewhat verbose. My apologies, but there are things on that you should know more about than what you may hear from the proverbial “arm-chair-critic.” Above all, I want you to know that the 79-80 SGA is there and we do care. We care a hell of a lot but if you don’t, then how can we expect to get anything done? Out office is in WllO and we plan to have office hours posted so that you can meet with your favorite representa tive. In any case, there are mailboxes located directly inside and to the left of the door. Leave a note. Till we get to talk again go for it!
