Alpha Sigma Alpha celebrated its second successful year at Behrend
on March 15. We would like to congratulate our new officers for the
88-89 school year, and wish the spring pledge class good luck.
Presently we are planning a canned food drive,in collaboration with
Alpha Phi Omega. The cans collected from the community will be
donated to the Erie Community Food Bank, where they will help the
hungry and homeless during the Easter season. We would appreciate
the cooperation from the student body and community. If you would
like to help out please contact Kathy at 899-4008. Also, on April 9 we
plan on visiting the Veteran's Hospital to help them celebrate the Easter
season by helping out with a post-Easter party.

The Reserve Officer Training corps held its annual formal dance on
Friday, April 22, 1988. The military ball took place at the Erie
Maennerchor Club and included dinner, a guest speaker, and dancing
afterwards.
The ball incorporated several military traditions like a saber arch,
toasts, and a color guard. The Master of Ceremonies was the
detachment commander Cadet Major Craig Paske.
Attire for the evening was formal with the ladies wearing long
dresses and the men wearing Dress Blues, Dress Greens, or tuxedos. A
wonderful time was had by all.
Dinner consisted of five courses, starting with shrimp cocktail and
ending with chocolate mousse. The food seemed to flow continuously
for an hour and a half. Everyone had a positive comment on the amount
of food served.
The guest speaker was Lieutenant Colonel Clayton R. Newell from
the Army War College in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. Colonel Newell's
address was on the Profession of Arms.
Other guests included members of the 112th Pennsylvania National
guard, the Retired Officers Association, the Reserve Officers
Association, 11th Special forces Group, 4/92nd Field Artillery, the
Marine Corps Reserve, and other students and faculty from Behrend.
Music for the evening was provided by a local DJ. who played a
great mixture of fast and slow songs. The music played until after 2
a.m. *
The person directly responsible for planning and organizing the
military ball who deserves recognition is cadet Heidi GebhardL She
insured that everything happened, from inviting the guest speaker to
getting the invitations and program printed. This was the last major
planning exercise for all the MS IV's and was one of the highlights of
the year.
