One of Sobotta's ideas is the Found Money Fund. Sobotta earned headlines with her great basketball and tennis play at the University of Idaho, but she was also playing an active part in ensuring the continued success of the unique Found Money Fund. The fund was a co-founded at the University of Idaho in 1980 by Ladies team by Aidy Somata Collegian Staff Writer The 1986 Womens' Volleyball Team has amassed an 8-12 record this season. The record may be misleading as it dqes not show the quality teams the Lady Cubs have played. Coach Jan Wilson stressed the fact, "We have forfeitted our record to play against some na tionally ranked teams so far." The Lady Cubs have played such big named volleyball squads as Ox idonal University, Calrin Universi ty, who's ranked third nationally in Division 3 play, and the Ohio Nor thern University also ranked in the top 20. On September 23, the team went to play the University of Buffalo and Baldwin Wallace at Buffalo. Wilson's squad dropped the first match 15-15, and 15-11 to the Buf falo squad, and then dropped two more to Baldwin Wallace 15-0 and 15-7. The Behrend club then travelled to Lake Erie College where they posted a victory. Behind the 11 spikes by Sue Holmes and numerous serving aces of Beth Beres, the Lady Cubs won by scores of 15-18 and 15-10. The Womens' Volleyball Team came out of the Thiel tournament with a 1-3 record. According to Sobott4, "The fund was originally started as just a fun thing on cam pus and now it exceeds $6OOO and is increasing by about $lOO per month.". A story appeared in "USA To day" and gained the University of Idaho national attention. As a result of the publicity, Armstrong was asked to appear on the NBC game show, "Fantasy", to try to win money for their fund. Arm the tourney by placing a 15-11 and 15-7 win over Walsh College. The next three games saw them lose to Bethany College, Westminster Col lege and Thiel College. Wilson stated, "The Westminster loss was tough. I felt we should have won." After the tough overtime loss to Westminster, they dropped the final match to Thiel. "Fantasy", hosted by Peter Marhall, was a game show design ed so the contestants could win money at the end of the show. The contestants were put into glass cubicals about the size of a phone book and had the opportunity to grab at $5O bills that were being blown around inside. Each contes tant was wearing an apron in which to stuff the money that they had next two by the score of 2-15. The squad will travel to Juanta College for a tournament next week. wilson looks to finish up the season improving on their record. She looks to Sue Holmes for good play and also feel Beth Beres, Zoe Kun and Anne Hatton will carry the team to victory in the upcoming matches. With good performances ex pected from these players, the Lady Cubs look to be very competitive from here on out. At the end of the time alloted them, Armstrong and Sobotta had managed to collect $2lOO between them. This sum is the largest donation to the fund so far. When Sobotta arrived at Behrend in 1984 she wanted to start a Found Money Fund here. With a little delibration she decided to put her plan into action. Unexpected loss for Soccer team On Saturday, September 27 the Penn State Behrend Mens' Varsity Soccer Team experienced an unusual and unexpeced loss to Walsh College. This places their current record at 2-3-1. The game got off to a slow start fot the Cubs. "We played much better the second half than we did the first", says captain Todd Lindenmuth. It is perhaps what some might call a freak accident that the other team won. When speaking with freshman goalie Mark Yingling, he said is was just a mistake. "I came out of the goal to assist team member Jay Varcoe. I told him to pass it back to me, but it was too far over for me to get, so it slid right in". This occurrence resulted in the only goal of the game, leaving the final score at 1-0. "We definitely outplayed them", said Todd. The junior captain predicts the team will begin to do really well from now on. "We all play well together and get along fine." Coach Lauffer took the loss very well considering the cirucm stances. Captain Mike Hockenberger said, "There's nothing we can do about it now. All we have to do is concentrate on the next game, and make sure we win." . The Cubs received quite a tur nout on Saturday considering it was All-U Day at Penn State, University Park. There were not as many students available to go to the soccer game that weekend. The rainfall also did not discourage fans as they continued to remain and support the Soccer Team. It is small change, and some one's and five dollar bills. Sobotta wanted to start the fund to generate funds for the athletic department. As of October 1, the fund has $50.19. Marcia is married and has two children, Brian 15 and Becky 13. Her husband is a drag-racer in his spare time and Marcia enjoys travelling around the country with him. Over the summer, they have travelled to Florida and he is current ly at nationals in Texas. Some of her other hobbies include camping and reading. Marcia and her family live in Wesleyville.
