Lady cagers fall short of late
February 20, 1986

With two home contests re
maining, the Lady Cubs coached
by Karin Sobotta, hope to finish
their 1985-86 basketball season on
a strong note.
Since the last issue, Behrend has
dropped three hard fought con
tests. Carlow College handed the
Lady Cubs a 49-68 non-league set
back and Westminster got by the
lady cagers 53-62 in a Keystone
Conference game. The Gannon
Lady Knights delt a stubborn
Behrend a 42-52 defeat in the
teams' second meeting (Gannon
also won the first game 88-30) at
Terry Anthony,
among sports fans.

Junior Sue Holmes continues to
lead the team in scoring and re
bounding. The 5'9" center
averages 13.3 points per game and
10 rebounds per game. She is
followed by Paula Skaggs with 10
ppg. Guard Toni Lumley is con
tributing five assists per outing
while averaging 11 ppg.
Friday,. Behrend plays host to
the Lady • Warriors of Daemen
College at 6 p.m. and on Tuesday
the Ladies entertain Mercyhurst,
also at 6 p.m. Earlier this season
Behrend defeated Daemen 69-24,
but lost a 66-72 heartbreaker to
rival Mercyhurst.

The Behrend Cubs snapped a
five game losing. streak by
outlasting the Pitt-Bradford Pan-
thers February 12 at Bradford
80-78.
Behrend owned a narrow 45-44
lead at halftime and followed that
up with clutch free throws down
the stretch to earn the win.
Jon Meanor hit two free throws
and Gary Manuel hit one late in
the game to nail down the fifth
win on the season for the Cubs.
Ed Robinson had the hot hand
for the Panthers by scoring 32
Erie Metropolitan Sports Hall
of Fame headed for a change

The Erie Metropolitan Sports
Hall of Fame is conducting a "re
juvination" campaign during the
months of March and April. To
"kick off" this effort, an infor
mal prospective new membewr
get-together is slated for February
23 at Hector's Restaurant located
at 18th and Liberty.
Founded in 1963, the Erie
Chapter is a non-profit organiza
tion created to perpetuate the
memory of former athletes who
have brought lasting fame and
recognition to the greater Erie
area through their athletic
achievements. "The Erie Sports
Hall of Fame endeavors to
recognize local championship
teams, coaches, officials, and in

points. Teammates Ted Dear and
Dave Crozier helped the cause
with 16 and 11 points respectively.
Paul Cwalina led Behrend
scorers with 23 points. Randy
Gorniak and Mike Siggins each
hit for 16 points, while Rich In
had 10 points.
Earlier in the month the Cubs
stumbled twice to their op
ponents. The Behrend men lost on
the road against Daemen College
54-49. The loss put the Cubs
record at 4-17 on the year with the
end of the season closing in.
In front of a capacity crowd at
Erie Hall on February 5, the men

Membership Chairman.
The local chapter has several
goals for 1986. "We look to
revitalize, reactivate and,
therefore, `rejuvinate' the
organization by increasing its
membership," said Jim Martin,
Chapter Secretary.
In addition to this infusion of
new ideas (with the new
members), the sports organization
hopes to sponsor an annual 'Erie
Sports Hall of Fame Dinner' and
are now accepting nominations
for a Fall inductee ceremony
which will honor past sports
